Windows 7 Reboot locks up Router DG834GT
Hi,
I've just completed a build of a home PC with the P7P55D LE motherboard.
Previously I had XP on another PC and my internet was rock solid.
Now when I reboot my new windows 7 PC it reports that the internet is down.
I have to reset the router or sometimes by disabling and re-enabling the on-board NIC on the m/b it comes back up.
I have tried the following:
reducing the lan speed to 100 full.
disabling all the wol features
disablign the green feature within the network card.
Any ideas before I purchase a PCI network card to see if the problem IS the m/b?
Cheers.
Just to add when the internet locks up I can still access the Routers setup page via a browser session.
All the lights on the router appear as normal, however windows 7 reports there being a problem with the internet...which the "helper" tries to diagnose and comes back with "unknown error"

Re: Windows 7 Reboot locks up Router DG834GT
Have you done a full windows update or got the specific win 7 driver for your motherboard?
It may be the default windows driver isn't working very well and needs to get the correct one for you network interface.I'm a PC, and Windows 7 Backup saved my sanity when BitDefender imploded !!!

The driver that is currenly on is from the ASUS website:
LAN (1)
Version 7.3.522.2009
Description Realtek RTL8111B/C & RTL8112L 10/100/1000M LAN Driver V7.3.522.2009 for Windows 32/64bit Windows 7.(WHQL)

Re: Windows 7 Reboot locks up Router DG834GT
I have got a mini 5-port hub that I've just found at work and also a couple of old Intel PRO 100 PCI cards which I can try later this evening....
My gut feeling is the INTEL card will work fine....just irks that I've paid for a motherboard with a gig NIC and it will be disabled.....or at least not used....
The only other thought I had (*which is time intensive) was to ghost the PC to create a backup then install windows 7 from scratch again with the latest motherboard drivers and see if the issue is being caused by some other software component...

Re: Windows 7 Reboot locks up Router DG834GT
That's is unusual that ASUS is using Realtek for the LAN as my P5ND is using the nVidea chipset (although Realtek for the onboard sound).
But windows update does tend to carry the latest Realtek drivers and it may be worth making a win 7 backup (which is a godsend), uninstalling the ASUS driver and seeing if Windows Backup has a later driver from Realtek.
This is what I have to do with my onboard sound on my motherboard and for my ASUS graphics card.
ASUS does some fantastic hardware, they do however slip up on updating the drivers though.I'm a PC, and Windows 7 Backup saved my sanity when BitDefender imploded !!!
