Re: New Sky Router - D-Link DSL-2640S
If you save the configuration of the D-Link 2640S router and then give it the .xml extension, you can view it in IE.
Amongst the various tags there is:
<X_BROADCOM_COM_LoginCfg>
<AdminPassword>*******</AdminPassword>
</X_BROADCOM_COM_LoginCfg>
where ******* = plain text password consisting of 8 letters/characters/numbers
Whatever this password is, it is clearly not the default 'sky' password which is used to access the configuration page.
I wonder if it could be the password for the connection settings:
Username: MAC@skydsl
Password: ********
Since I haven't been activated yet, I can't try it - but if anyone does I would recommend also spoofing the MAC if your alternate router supports that.
If anyone tries this, I for one would be interested in knowing the result.

Re: New Sky Router - D-Link DSL-2640S
That will be the router's admin login, its either been obfuscated, or encrypted so it can't be read out of a backed up configuration file.
If you want to use another router, why not buy an old sky router off ebay, and use the authentication details from that.
According to a poster in another thread, sky are/maybe planning to switch over to using mac Ethernet routing (MER) on their network (same as be), which doesn't require authentication.

Re: New Sky Router - D-Link DSL-2640S
The ******** is a real (plaintext) password, I just don't want to reveal what it is for my router. It's not obfuscated or encrypted.

On second thoughts, I see what you mean - the ******** password could be an encrypted version of 'sky'

Re: New Sky Router - D-Link DSL-2640S
From what I gather, the routers aren't barred after a customer has left, although I guess its possible that one day they might decide to clear off all the unused logins from the radius servers. You might have problems if the original owner is still using the login.
I may be wrong, but I would expect sky to identify their LLU customers from the phone line rather than login, as it would reduce administration costs. There's an option to do that on BT wholesale's network too.
I guess it would be wise to get a definitive answer from one of the Sky employees that visits here, before buying one.

I have 3 old Sky Routers, with 3 unique logins... Surely they're tied to someones Sky account somewhere?
If that accounts been closed the router won't work will it?

Re: New Sky Router - D-Link DSL-2640S
This is awesome news, I have an old Sky account, which has just been cancelled. I'll try tonight.
I know then that the accounts not been abused, and that I'm using exactly what I'm paying for. (old acc was unlimited, new acc is unlimited).
