Question "No Internet" light - NETGEAR router

Have been using SKY broadband happily for a year or so till now. Have the black Netgear router. The router worked great as soon as I plugged it in back then.
Suddenly yesterday I had no internet and checked the router, it had the power light and wireless light but no "internet" light. I can log into router admin page and a sky test gives the error 100, no internet connection.

      I have tried the following;

      1. Restarted router by power off/on
      2. Router Reset button
      3. Replaced ADSL Filter and cable from filter to router.
      4. Plugged filter direct into test telephone socket (under base plate)
      5. Unplugged all telephone connections so just filter and cable to router are connected.
      6. Called Sky support did a line test and are sending a new router , 5 days to wait.

It doesn't make sense to me that the router is the problem, why the router works enough for me to login to admin page but fails to have any internet connection.

Is there a way to prove the modem part of router is failing ?

I am worried that a new router will come and I'll still have the same problem.

Has anyone else had simillar issues ?

why the router works enough for me to login to admin page but fails to have any internet connection.
The modem, router and switch are really 3 different parts, although they are contained in the same box. It is quite possible for one part to be faulty and the others to work OK. Wait till the replacement router comes, if it also gives the same result, they will have to get BTO on to the problem.

Re: "No Internet" light - NETGEAR router

I've had exactly the same problem.

Had sky broadband for two years. Moved house a few weeks ago and told broadband would be activated on Friday (Sept 10th). It did and worked fine, but then dropped off on Saturday and the internet light hasn't been on since.

Rang Sky, call centre guy said it's a problem with the microfilter. He's sending me out a new one which will take three days. I'm not convinced as it was all working fine before.

Really frustrating as needed to work from home today so we could get washing machine and other stuff delivered but had to come into work.

      Any ideas/help?!

      Thanks

Have you not got a spare microfilter to check it with? It could quite easily be a faulty microfilter!

Possibly somewhere, but everything is still in boxes! Would resetting the router make a difference?

You can try resetting the router but I doubt it'll make any difference you really need to try a spare microfilter first before doing anything else.

Not being the most technical kind of guy, can you buy these sort of things from Curry's and Comet?

Unfortunately, it's all too common for a lot of advisors to suggest it's the filter without most likely checking the actual set-up and such. My bet is it's not the filter, but of course I could be wrong.

      - How many telephone sockets do you use in the house?
      - Does every telephone socket in use have a filter connected directly into the socket before any other devices?
      - Is the router plugged into the master socket?
      - Are you running any extension cables to the router, or are you using the short grey dsl cable sky supplied?
      - Do you have sky tv plugged in anywhere? More specifically, is there a two-way blank white splitter connected anywhere? If so, is that connected AFTER the filter, or before it?

Re: "No Internet" light - NETGEAR router

There are two telephone sockets but we're only using the downstairs one at the mo and the router is plugged into that one via the microfilter.

We're just using the grey dsl cable.

Sky tv is plugged in but in another wall and no two-way white splitter connected.
