Re: Router Freeze, Loss of Connection Possible Fix
I've had numerous problems when it comes to media streaming from my 834GT, the router's fine, stays up NO problem whilst im using my desktop (ethernet), but if I'm using wireless, esp with media streaming (I dont use wireless for anything else), It will disconnect the router and kill my connection, this normally happens after an hour or so of streaming, I then have to manually reboot the router (i.e. pull the power out)... its done this pretty much since I hooked the PS3, I''ve tried turning of uPNP to no avail...
anyone got any ideas, just changed my settings from auto 108 to b&g on channel 10, hoping that could help...
I get 8mb's down and 456kb up, connections always been stable otherwise, think im just plagued with a crap router.

Re: Router Freeze, Loss of Connection Possible Fix
It certainly sounds like the consequences of a poor wireless quality signal. Data gets corrupted and needs the router to retransmit it. This retransmitted data also gets partially corrupted. The cycle repeats and the problem snowballs.
Make sure your router is up off the floor and away from any large metallic or electrical items (including other cables) and experiment with different wireless channels - start at 13 and work down.

thanks for that will give it a go... i just don't understand how it can work for ages and then just fall over, the router is on the first floor (on teh floor to get better signal strength), the ps3 is downstairs in the lounge.

Re: Router Freeze, Loss of Connection Possible Fix
I've been getting a connection problem since i turned on the laptop this morning. It was working all fine before i turned it off to go to bed.
Now its disconnected every 10-15mins and staying offline for 10-15mins then reconnecting automatically again.
I've tried using the sky Black netgear router and a Belkin58 and both are doing the same thing above. So its definately not a router problem. Both were working fine the day before!
I've tried the UpnP thing and turned it off (Im currently using the Belkin though) and rebooted both to no effect.
Sky are usless when phoning them.
I'm at my whits end now, its disconnected 32 times today/tonight already, that really is enough to pee anyone off.

Re: Router Freeze, Loss of Connection Possible Fix
Is it the wireless network dropping (probably not as both routers are dropping) or does the internet light on the router go off (the @ symbol)?

Re: Router Freeze, Loss of Connection Possible Fix
Hi,
The @ symbol goes off on both routers. And the little "world" sign on my connection on my task bar disappears. It just leaves two little PC icons flashing saying i have Local Access but no Internet.
I have no idea why this is happening as i have had Sky BB for several months without any issues.
I have just had to wait 20mins to get back on and write this reply.
Sometimes it only takes 5 mins and its disconnected again, sometimes it won't disconnect for about 20mins... but its always offline for between 10-20mins.

Re: Router Freeze, Loss of Connection Possible Fix
Hmm,
Well so far today for over an hour it appears okay, yesterday within a space of an hour i could get online for a maximum of around 20mins. So not too bad today, fingers crossed.

Re: Router Freeze, Loss of Connection Possible Fix
I spoke too soon, off it goes again...for 10mins.... this is so frustrating, what on earth is wrong?

Re: Router Freeze, Loss of Connection Possible Fix
Have you checked if it still drops connection when your router is connected to the test socket? (via a filter) - if it still drops, it is probably a line fault, if it doesn't, it will be your faceplate.
