Re: Router Freeze, Loss of Connection Possible Fix
No harm in posting the full results most people do, I believe a big factor is CRC errors, they should not exceed 0.1% of the SF "Super frames" transmitted. If they do then you need to go down the route of testing whilst plugged into the test socket behind the BT master socket face plate, this will rule out any problems with extension wiring etc.

Re: Router Freeze, Loss of Connection Possible Fix
Ok, my problem turns out to be the sky router. I know this as I just went out and bought a new £97 Netgear DG834N router. I wanted to just rule out the router being the problem. It took 2 mins to set up and worked straight away. The internet connection has stayed up.
Now I don't know what to do as I was planning to go to Talk Talk and Freeview. At least with Talk Talk I won't be breaking Ts&Cs by using my own router and am not tied to Sky TV. I might be too lazy to change it now it works. Its such a relief I am now connected to Internet for more than 5 minutes! I didn't realise how much it was stressing me out as I can work from home properly again.
Am v.annoyed with Sky though... I requested another router at the beginning of my problems, but never got one. Also this router could probably handle closer to 8MB speed and I can't stand to call Sky Support again as they are a joke.

Re: Router Freeze, Loss of Connection Possible Fix
Hi all, just like to say thanks to all out there 4 the info in this thread, turned off the U PNP facility and the router is now stable.
Next question is, now that the router has been connected continuously for more than 24 hours, my speed test results from differing sites show me dropping from around 1.5 meg to around 900k, yet the router status reports my connection as a constant 1664 kbps down, 448 up?
I'm happy to have a stable connection now, bit miffed about the slow down?
Any ideas?

Re: Router Freeze, Loss of Connection Possible Fix
Just want to add my kudos for this guide, thankyou Dingdong.
I got sky-max package because I play mmorpgs and didn't want my online gaming hindered in any way.
I also chose to use the wireless option as the computer is located away from a telephone point, and I had the same problems as everyone else, it disconnected frequently (the first problem was getting my computer to accept the netgear wg311t but that's sorted).
Anyone who plays mmorpgs (WoW) will know how frustrating frequent disconnects are.. anyways I tried the advice in the guide, logged into router etc, turned off UPnP and changed to auto 108mps and last night for the first time I had a consistent gaming session for at least 3hrs (total connection with no interruptions, lag or disconnects!! WooT!Thx again!!

Re: Router Freeze, Loss of Connection Possible Fix
Hi Guys
Firstly, big thanks to Dingdong for saving my sanity
but also, just a quick question.
turned Upnp off, but still have to fool the Router round the low noise margin. Is it the Router causing this noise margin issue, or my connection (extension in house/ distance from exchange?) Is there anything BT/Sky can do without me having to see an engineer or put up with stupid troubleshooting call centres?
i'm happy to buy a new router, but don't want to unless it's a definate fix.
had a power cut last week and still have got the Nm up to an safe level.
thanks again, and hope i've not asked a stupid question

Re: Router Freeze, Loss of Connection Possible Fix
Hi, I tried all the fixes in the forum and more. Turned out to be router in my case. The sky router needed rebooting every 10 minutes in the end and took 20 minutes for a new connection to be made. I had to turn the sky router off for 15 mins and reboot a few times until I got a connection again and the internet light only stayed on for another 10 mins... this went on all day... so if your problem was like mine a new router will fix it. This problem wasn't as bad at the beginning and seemed to get worse and worse, then i gave up.
You should try to get sky to send you a new router so you can see if its that first.
