@Pete
Can you post your detailed stats in the Tech forum stats section together with a brief description/reminder of your problem please?
If you're not sure how to get them read the sticky in the forum first.
I suspect there may be some line error issues which are causing your slowdown.

Re: Router Freeze, Loss of Connection Possible Fix
at 22:24 hrs tonight they are
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 3904 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 41.0 db 25.0 db
Noise Margin 6.1 db 22.0 db
BUT
earlier this evening this was the result:
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 5376 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 41.0 db 25.0 db
Noise Margin 3.4 db 22.0 db
The router didn't drop out though even though my noise figure was so bad!
I've installed a low loss broadband extension cable and switched my Anti Virus program from AVG Free to Norton 2003. The biggest problem is with my BT wiring, tier 3 thinks. It was last installed by them about 30 years ago and has never been touched since then!

Re: Router Freeze, Loss of Connection Possible Fix
have you, bearing in mind the age of your wiring, disconnected the old bell wires, not sure what numbers but it will be in the faceplate forum.
Talking faceplates, have you tested via the engineers test socket, if a better reading I would get an ASDL faceplate. Apart from this you can rewire the whole circuit on Sat afternoon and miss the footy :-)One day you are the pigeon, but most days just the statue ...

Re: Router Freeze, Loss of Connection Possible Fix
Hate football anyway!
No, I haven't got an engineer's test socket anywhere in the house, the wiring was done in the days before test sockets were invented. I think someone said only connectors 2 and 4 need to be wired up, all the rest are redundant. I'm wondering if BT may prefer to do the job for me, in case I disconnect the wrong ones!

Re: Router Freeze, Loss of Connection Possible Fix
Hi, connection much much better today after following absolutely everything on this forum. Unticking UPnP, TCPOptimiser, speed testing, and downloads while using engineers socket seem to have done the trick!
Look Look! Router hasn't frozen for almost 2 hours:
System Up Time 01:57:24
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
WAN PPPoA 19615 26346 0 544 4013 01:55:35
LAN 10M/100M 112 0 0 2 0 01:57:22
WLAN 11M/54M/108M 27640 21469 0 4091 598 01:57:12
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4576 kbps 768 kbps
Line Attenuation 53.0 db 31.5 db
Noise Margin 10.2 db 12.0 db
I still have an issue with the connection speed as I am paying for the 16MB package and must have been capped due to the problems I was getting. So another call to Sky and all will be well. Am happy customer now.

Re: Router Freeze, Loss of Connection Possible Fix
Glad you're sorted.
Not sure about your capped comment though. As a reminder, you signed up to an "up to 16meg" package. Your speed will be limited by your line length (attenuation).
With an attenuation of 53db your connection speed of 4576kbps is very good - no signs of capping there.

Re: Router Freeze, Loss of Connection Possible Fix
Hi, Saturday. Wellllll I was sorted until lunchtime when my connection constantly died again. The speed went up to 5MB and my connection kept dropping out. Phoned Sky Helpdesk they said that Tier 3 were looking at the problem as an Emergency Sev 1, had recalibriated my line so I basically got the problem back, but at a higher speed this time.
I think my package may have been reduced to Mid as I can't have Max. I will try and find out tomorrow as Sky said I could call back then as Tier 3 will have finished testing the line. Shame I couldn't speak to Tier 3. I wanted to ask if they could improve the SNR.
Cheeers,
