Keyword blocking not working Netgear DG934G-1SKUKS

      Hi
Just joined sky - I had to get away from Virgin!

Set up router (Netgear DG934G-1SKUKS) fine and went to set up site blocking (have 7 and 5 year old girls who dont want to see everything you get when you search for things like girls or pictures!)

On the security tab, blocking set to always, added some choice keywords (tried in "s and without) but not luck. Has anyone been able to do this ok with this router?

      Thanks for any help.

PS Blocking a particular website DOES work fine but it would be some list....

Re: Keyword blocking not working Netgear DG934G-1SKUKS

      Hi
It only seems to work if the key word is part of the URL - but that isnt much help. For example I have set up a block on the word marine (just as a test!)

I can still get to the site NMA - Home Page - no problems. If I try and google with word marine that is blocked because marine is part of the URL.

Is this all that is offered by the router? If it is I guess I need some other product.
      Thanks

Yep, I can confirm this does not block that site.

I will forward this info on for you to our contacts at Sky, obviously this does not work and is a problem, that has been missed.

      Email sent.

I may be from St Helens, but I don't eat pies like those from Wigan

Re: Keyword blocking not working Netgear DG934G-1SKUKS

Apparently this is standard behaviour, it will only block access to sites that contain the KEYWORDS in the URL.

However imho the description / instructions lead you to the impression that this is not the case.

If you want to limit access to certain sites on the Internet, you need to set up content filtering. There are two ways to filter content:

      * blocking access to certain domains (for example, pornoXXXsiteXXX.com) or
      * blocking sites that contains certain words (like profanity or explicit sexual material).

Thanks for the quick response. Not much use then

I will have to do some research into suitable products.

      Thanks again.
