Sky Q & Mini Ethernet Connection Issues

      Hi There,

I have been doing alot of reading today to try and trouble shoot this but keep getting no where.

I had Sky Q (2TB) installed today with a mini, in my house the two point where I want the main and the mini are basically in the opposite points, I have concrete floors so there is no hope of a wifi connection at all at all, its to the point I have 2 seperate routers - Upstairs & Down stairs.

My set up is, I have main internet in feeding a router in the attic and then that feeds the network switch which sends a cat 6 to each room including to the main tv point where the SKY Q sits and another router.

The router in the main tv room then feeds the SKY Q, TV, Xbox etc and all have good connectivity wired. Wireless is just really used for phones and tablets.

The 'engineer' came today and fitter the SKY Q into the main tv room and worked perfectly, but the mini upstairs we had no joy, he said the switch was the issue - i said it shouldnt be as its job is to allow everything to talk to everything. (when I log in downstairs via the router I can see the router in the attic which is after the switch so all working ok there). I said look leave it with me after an hour of us trying.

So i have 2 lan cable points at each of the TV points and i switched to the 'back up' on both and ran straight off of the router so basically both were just connected via one router directly in the attic and still no joy.

I have tried a number of resets, engineer menu's wifi off's etc. and still left with the mini saying ERR: MR104 cannot find the SKY Q box.

If any one could give me a bit of a steer, step by step based on any knowledge they have, it would be really appreciated, the main reason i went from HD to Q was the carry on watching feature... I didnt have multiroom before.

I think i have described it in as much detail as possible so apologies for the long post.

Enable wired ethernet connection on both the main Q and mini, turn the wifi off on both. Your network DHCP server should give them both addresses and you can check that on the dhcp server, so you know they are both online. Next, and this is what I do, power down the mini, wait a couple of minutes then power it back up, it should find the 'Q' if all is well on the network.

Just a thought, the switch you have in the loft, is it managed or unmanaged, and what sort of switch is it?

      TP-LINK TL-SG1016D 16-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch

      It's an unmanaged switch.

Should be fine, I use a similar switch, although the link between the 'Q's is done over powerline.

Re: Sky Q & Mini Ethernet Connection Issues

This was actually a key point - the DHCP server could only see the mini based on the IP address and not the main, so a full reset of everything and re turned off the WIFI on the Q and mini again and reset router and then both showed up as a wired client, this was the first time ever.

On my main router - this is main internet in now and the Q & Mini hard wired, then other port used it to provide internet to the switch which is handling everything else and its working now so fingers crossed and tanks again.

Re: Sky Q & Mini Ethernet Connection Issues

SkyQ box connected to internet via wifi, the mini is in a bedroom with poor wifi so can I connect this to router (shorter cable run) or does it have to be connected by ethernet directly to SkyQ box?

Is there an advantage in connecting to one or the other?
