Connecting Sky Q to a dvd recorder
We currently have a sky plus box which uses the hdmi output direct to the tv and uses the scart to go to a dvd recorder and then from there to the scart on the tv.
Now as I understand sky q only has an hdmi output (no scart option) and I know dvd recorders don't allow hdmi recordings.
So has anybody got round this problem. I see a lot of content cant be downloaded to an ipad for legal reasons according to sky
I was thinking if I split the hdmi output from the box into two using a splitter, one going to the tv direct and then converting the other hdmi output to scart to go into the back of the dvd recorder and then from there into the scart on the tv.
what I am essentially wanting to do is still put sky q recordings onto a dvd -r so I can watch all the content i choose and not be limited by what sky is allowed to do
Anybody done this kind of thing already?

Re: Connecting Sky Q to a dvd recorder
Splitting the hdmi will work.
This is a hdmi to scart convertor that I have seen others use.

You can also use the av out from a mini using the Now tv av cable.

The hdmi to scart works and picture / sound ok on my sons toshiba DVD recorder. (9yrs old)
You still have to do the sky thing (unless there is another way) - watch what you are recoding. I leave it on DVD timer and edit with the DVD.

Re: Connecting Sky Q to a dvd recorder
Ah so am I right in saying that the sky q boxes have lost the copy function that the hd+ boxes had. Or is that still an option.
with the older boxes you could set what to copy and leave it to do it stuff.

I can't find the old copy way so we do it the "watchit" way.

Re: Connecting Sky Q to a dvd recorder
thanks for the replies guys. much appreciated...... shame the q box doesn't have the copy function as I could have worked round the original problem.... Losing the copy function might swing it for me as I do a lot of my copying to dvd-r at night.I Set it all up, go to sleep and by the morning its all sorted
