Hopefully this will all soon become a mute point. Some people are calling for the Government to step in and force all the providers to improve their coverage or to offer roaming between the different networks for free.
Currently people visiting the UK can, on the whole, get a better signal than residents. This is because their respective roaming packages allow them to use any of the UK networks.

In that case you might as well have one network and have it state owned. That will never happen.
The government would not want that eithere as they get a lot of money from selling off the mobile spectrum's every few years, 5g being the latest.
Also, I cannot see the likes of EE (BT) or Vodafone wanting that either. If they do it will only come at a hefty cost to the consumer for using another network. Roaming re invented.

I put £10 credit on my PAYG in July 2015, still got nearly a fiver left so I don't think this is the deal for me
