Sports and/or movie lovers who want it in HD can't sub to the basic original bundle either.
Minimum requirement for being allowed to pay the £5.50* extra is a family bundle sub.
They know what they're doing.
* Just checked & it's still £5.25 not £5.50.

Re: Price changes from 1st June 2015
Okay, so why am I paying £10 for HD then and not £5?.... I've clearly fallen asleep at some point. I thought the £5HD was if you wanted HD but didn't have sports/movies so you didn't pay the full HD whack for a fraction of the channels.

Re: Price changes from 1st June 2015
You're on the legacy pack Red. That also gives you access to the F1 channel.
PlusNet Fibre since Jan 2021
Previously Sky Fibre & Sky BB since 2010.

Re: Price changes from 1st June 2015
Legacy 'Variety HD'.
Variety bundle
£10.25 HD pack (covers standard channels & premium (sports / movies) channels)
Boxsets
F1 channel
Current 'Family'
Variety bundle
Access to HD variants of variety bundle
Boxsets.
Basically, they split the old HD pack in two:
£5 for standard channels & £5.25 for premium channels.
Which is a good thing for those who don't subscribe to sports or movies.
It's just that rather than actually have a separate £5 HD pack to cover standard channels, they (stupidly IMO) created a bundle called 'family' which costs £5 more than the variety bundle.

Re: Price changes from 1st June 2015
Something else worth considering is what you're currently paying for the variety part of your sub Red.
Being on a legacy pack means it'll be less than the normal price of £30 (from june) because of the september 2011 price freeze.
So for example, if it were £25.75 (it won't be that low) & you didn't have sports or movies or care about F1, then one would assume there'd be no difference if you ditched variety HD in favour of the family bundle:
Variety £25.75
HD pack £10.25
= £36
Family bundle is £36
But it's not that simple.
Because variety to family is considered as an upgrade, you'll retain the price freeze 'discount' you currently have - ie the difference between £30 (from june) & what you're paying now (from june).
I'm on the legacy variety HD sub without sports or movies & thanks to a £4 discount on my £10.25 HD pack + price freeze benefits, believe me, being a serial penny pincher i've had to work it out.
Turns out i'm paying £3.75 above standard to have HD, boxsets & F1!
If i ditched my variety HD sub in favour of the current family bundle i would save £2.25 but lose the F1 channel.Last edited by gymno; 17-05-15 at 09:08 PM.
