Re: Sky Broadband Shield – rolling out to all our customers
When I set up my fibre router a few months ago, I declined Broadband Shield. Does this mean they're gonna be activating it in the next week unless I say otherwise?
I also didn't bother with email from Sky when they migrated across to Yahoo, so how are they going to be contacting me? Haven't even bothered logging in to my member area on their site for years, and don't know what the password is because someone else set it up.
I've been on the Net for almost 20 years and there's no way I'm about to let anyone filter my content!

Re: Sky Broadband Shield – rolling out to all our customers
Sky will be contacting all their Broadband account holders to let them know that this is happening.
This will allow everyone the opportunity to set up the Sky Shield or decline it.
If you decline it this is recorded and no further action will occur.
The system should also know if you have already declined it.
I believe that it should only contact those who joined Sky Broadband prior to Sky Shield becoming available.
If you don't do anything, then during the day it'll be set to PG IIRC and late at night it'll go to 18 rating.

Re: Sky Broadband Shield – rolling out to all our customers
You can go here Sky Broadband Shield - Features to enable or disable the broadband shield. Many are annoyed that Sky are making this opt out rather than opt in but everyone should remember that not everyone is internet literate. There are many who do not have a clue what is safe and what is not, its for their benefit. Is going to the above site and making your choice that difficult?

Re: Sky Broadband Shield – rolling out to all our customers
And there are many who haven't changed their router admin password, have no idea about their router settings, and therefore have no idea of how shield settings will affect them. Those type of people are lambs to the slaughter on the Net, regardless of the politically correct intentions of Sky.

Re: Sky Broadband Shield – rolling out to all our customers
I'm quite happy that Sky have done this: I've been meaning to switch my broadband to another supplier for ages but being a lazy git I always put it off. This announcement has now spurred me on to get it done

Re: Sky Broadband Shield – rolling out to all our customers
Why? All the main providers now have something similar and it has to be offered to any new customers.
Simple follow the link below if you want to set up your line or ensure that Sky Shield isn't enabled.

Re: Sky Broadband Shield – rolling out to all our customers
Sky are doing more than offering this protection / censorship. They are enforcing it although allowing you to manually opt out.
It should just be offered to everyone in a very tech free easy to understand email!
The customer then decides if he / she wants it.

Re: Sky Broadband Shield – rolling out to all our customers
Actually the new process that sky have looks pretty clear and well laid out to me.
Have seen some of the other providers solutionsand they look like an absolute nightmare for the general user.
The help from Sky though made me laugh.
Q: Can Sky see what I am doing on the internet if I have Sky Broadband Shield turned on?
A: No. We can't see you are viewing on the internet, regardless of your Sky Broadband Shield settings.
