Customers to Enjoy More Choice & Better Value as Sky Broadband & Sky Talk Come to Ireland
Sky is to open up more choice for Irish consumers after today confirming plans to launch its home communication services - Sky Broadband and Sky Talk - in Ireland from later this year. Sky is to extend the reach of its ‘triple play’ suite of services having agreed a wholesale deal with BT Ireland. This will enable Sky to add home telephony and broadband to its existing pay TV service, which is Ireland’s most popular digital TV platform.
In launching home communications services in Ireland, Sky hopes to build on the increasing appetite of consumers to enjoy the convenience and simplicity of taking a bundle of services from one company.
As in the UK, Sky will lead on value, quality and customer service. Pricing and timing for all products will be confirmed in the coming months.
The launch of broadband and talk in Ireland builds on the growing demand from Sky’s UK customers for great value and high quality home communications services. Since launching in 2006, Sky has grown faster than any other home broadband and home phone provider and is now the UK’s favourite triple play provider, with a third of its customers taking all three services.
JD Buckley, Managing Director of Sky Ireland, comments: “We’ve been looking at how best to bring our Irish customers more choice and better value in broadband and talk. We’re confident of delivering the right products at the right prices so customers have a real alternative to the incumbent services they’ve been used to.
“We are excited to be broadening the range of products we are able to offer our customers in Ireland and to be deepening our relationship with them. We look forward to delivering the innovative products, better value and great customer service that consumers have come to expect from Sky.”
Customers will be able to pre-register for Sky Broadband and Sky Talk in due course. Further announcements will be made shortly.
To support the introduction of Sky’s new services, and as part of the company’s commitment to invest in its Irish operations and people, Sky will open a dedicated Customer Contact Centre for Irish customers this year, increasing its workforce to 900 people over the next two years. Recruitment for the new positions, which were announced earlier this year, is currently underway and interested applicants can visit Work for Sky | BSkyB Careers for more information.
Sky currently reaches over 10.6 million homes across the UK and Ireland with its services, and has been at the forefront of innovation in the pay TV market leading viewers into the age of high definition television with Sky+HD. More recent innovations include Sky 3D, Europe’s first dedicated 3D TV channel, and Sky Go, which allows Sky customers to access live and on demand TV on smartphones, computers, and games consoles. Sky also continues to break new ground with its own portfolio of channels and is committed to growing its investment in home-grown content to £600m a year by 2014.~ Never, ever, argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience ~

I trust that this will be good news for everyone in Ireland. I hope that the product will be more like SBU than Connect though.
