Following today’s third quarter results (for the nine months to 31 March 2010), Sky confirms that over one in four of its customers are enjoying high definition TV via Sky+HD (2.5m homes).

Sky is now enjoyed in 9.77 million households, with one in five customers taking TV, broadband and talk products.

Today Sky Sports 4 HD launched providing more HD sport than ever before with over 10,000 hours available in 2010. Next Thursday (6th May) sees the launch of Sky News HD, the 40th channel to join the platform, to coincide with election night. Sky will offer 50 HD channels by the end of 2010.

As Europe’s most comprehensive HD service, 2.5 million Sky+HD homes can today access up to 39 HD channels spanning entertainment, sports, movies, arts, drama, kids and documentaries, from leading channel brands such as Sky Sports, Sky Movies, FX, Discovery, Sky Arts, MTV, Sky1, Nat Geo, ESPN, Disney, ITV, Channel 4 and the BBC.

Sky recently standardised its set-top strategy. All new and upgrading customers receiving a Sky+HD box, with those subscribing to the £10 a month HD channel pack for the first time receiving their HD box for free.

Later this year customers will get even more value from their Sky+HD box with access to Anytime+, a broadband-enabled video-on-demand service, and Sky 3D, Europe’s first 3D TV channel.
