Old Trafford comes to West London
For some pub landlords, showing the big match is enough to keep their locals happy. However, landlord Dave Webster has gone the extra mile and transformed his West London pub, the Fulham Mitre, into a mini football stadium complete with real a grass pitch, goalposts, turnstiles and stadium seating ahead of the much anticipated Sky 3D Manchester United vs Chelsea game this Saturday 3rd April.
Footie fans are in for the ultimate football viewing experience. Local customers will don their 3D glasses to watch the match on Sky 3D, Europe’s first 3D TV channel. Fans will feel literally immersed in the stadium atmosphere as fruit machines are replaced with corner flags, real turf and pitch markings cover the floor, and instead of collecting glasses, a ref will handout red and yellow cards to unruly customers.
Pub landlord Dave Webster said: “For customers who can’t make it to Old Trafford, we’re bringing the stadium atmosphere to West London. We’re one of the first pubs to be showing Sky 3D on Saturday and I can’t wait to see the reaction from my locals to the 3D and my pub makeover.”
Locals at the Fulham Mitre pub will join the hundreds of thousands of fans across the UK and Ireland who will be able to watch live 3D Premier League matches this season. However, they will be the only ones cheering from a turfed bar area with additional features including nets, a manager’s dugout and a VIP box.
Brian Lenz, Sky’s Director of Product Design and TV Product Development, said: “The Fulham Mitre has really gone the extra mile with the makeover and Sky 3D; regulars will feel like they are on the pitch.”
On Saturday 3rd April, Sky launches Sky 3D, Europe’s first 3D TV channel, which kicks off with the big match, Manchester United vs Chelsea. Sky will then show at least a further five Premier League games - to be announced - before the end of the current season (Sunday 9th May) and the Coca-Cola Football League Play-Off Finals from Wembley Stadium at the end of May, all live and all in 3D.
