BT, seem to have an unlimited package for the 40Mb & 100Mb - I, really can't see SKY being much cheaper than this "deadman":-
BT Broadband Telephone packages & great deals on broadband & phone

Re: Sky will be looking to run trials of fibre-optic broadband
I was under the impression that cabs close to the exchange wont get fibre but BT have enabled all cabs in my area now including the ones that are a few metres from the exchange. The rest of the town was enabled last year. The ones closer to the exchange have been enabled after exactly 12 months.
I don't think people connected directly to the exchange will get FTTP. They will get FTTC where the 'cabinet' would be the exchange itself. In simpler words they would be moved to a faster DSLAM such as the ones found in the fibre cabs.

Re: Sky will be looking to run trials of fibre-optic broadband
Unless you download torrents you will not even notice the FUP and then torrents are only throttled at peak times.
My data usage since the 8th is showing at 32GB of Unlimited, if that is accurate then i am on for 62GB in a month which is about what i estimented i was using with Sky anyway.
As for the price, what is an extra tenner? i cancelled my HD pack to compensate so my monthly bill is no dearer with Sky/BT than it was with just Sky, only difference is i now have a connection that dosnt pack in every night when the SNR drops, a wireless range that is massive, a 500GB network drive thanks to the HH3 USB port and of course 40Mbit.
EDIT:
I actualy got the price wrong, my combined bill will be £5 a month more not £10, albeit this is minus the HD pack.Last edited by Kona Owner; 23-11-11 at 05:26 PM.

Re: Sky will be looking to run trials of fibre-optic broadband
The question you might want to ask yourself now is:
Will Sky launch a fibre product range this year or does their silence mean that it will be next Spring or September?
If it is launched now, then BTO Engineers will be busy over Christmas and Sky's financial figures will be skewed in January.

Re: Sky will be looking to run trials of fibre-optic broadband
We're all asking ourselves this. I've basically given them until the end of the year to make an announcement. After that, I'll be off to BT, Plusnet or Talktalk who are all now offering packages in my area.
Why on earth are Sky dragging their feet on this one, allowing their competitors to grab such a big lead in the market?
Same holds true for the promise of wifi hotspots via The Cloud. Why are they keeping everything secret for so long?
Add to this people like me getting hacked off by the £2.49 charge for old movies on Anytime+ and they have a nice recipe for getting rid of thousands of customers come the new year.

Re: Sky will be looking to run trials of fibre-optic broadband
I entirely agree that it is now looking unlikely that Sky will indeed launch a fibre product range now.
There are more companies than just BT who can supply fibre now and unless Sky are secretly installing lots of cabinets around the country, they really have messed up IMHO.
As for inside knowledge - Not me.
