Re: Sky will be looking to run trials of fibre-optic broadband
I wouldn't hold your breath for anything in the near future. Just read 2 briefings today, one of which is about a limited customer trial beginning soon in 2 areas of London. This is apparently only to gauge customer demand and there are still no plans to launch anything. This is typical of Sky though, everyone is kept in the dark about what they're really doing.
The other briefing was about how to convince customers why they don't really need fibre broadband and why Sky's current offerings are great value etc.It is true to an extent, but I think that gives you some idea where things stand right now.

Thanks for that. I was very sceptical about a September Launch myself. The 2 trial exchanges will probably be in North London.

Our village gave birth to its first FTTC cab yesterday, i havent been this giddy about the internet since i managed to get enough signatures in to the BT system for ADSL back in 2003

Sky are putting themselves in a very precarious position. They are going to find themselves left with the few who get a very good speed at the moment and are happy with it, those whose cabinet is not going to be upgraded and those on Connect who don't know any better. I would not be surprised if the Sky BB user figures show a reduction for the first time in 2012/13.

well the thing is sky will have to keep up to the likes of bt and virgin if they want to believe in better then there gonna have to do something. otherwise they will end up punished before long. i mean is it a possibility that sky are waiting till after bt has done all the fibre upgrades ie 2015 which is ment to be the main deadline.
