Re: Sky will be looking to run trials of fibre-optic broadband
I wont hold my breath about my local exchange being upgraded to fibre, all around me virgin has fibre, but not on the estate i live in,and looking at BT they have no idea when my exchange would be fibre enabled,i would have thought sky might have looked into installing fibre themselves, yes i know it is expensive, but if you dont invest, eventually the Network will be overloaded, more and more people are signing up to BB,and eventually there willbe so little bandwidth left we will all have our connections restricted,so dont be like BT,SKY invest in this with a view to creating your own fibre network,if i wait for BT,by the time they do it i willbe retired and im only 40 now.....

Re: Sky will be looking to run trials of fibre-optic broadband
He could be. BT are enabling two thirds of the populated areas for fibre by 2015 - not all of the country - so it's possible they'll never get it. The only way the remaining 'final third' will get done according to BT is if they get some government money to do so because it's currently not economical for them to enable the whole country, much like how Virgin have only 50% coverage.

Re: Sky will be looking to run trials of fibre-optic broadband
According to the latest list, only three exchanges in Scotland will be done. This includes Innerleithen which has less than 2000 subscribers and was one of the Race to Infinity winners. I think someone must have gone round with a list talking people into voting. Good for them, its a lovely little town.
BT reveals fibre-to-the-cabinet plans for 156 exchanges ? The Register
Never mind, my exchange may get it before I get my letter from the Queen, or more likely, the King.

Fujitsu plans 1Gbps fiber optic network for rural Britain
The more the merrier...
Wonder if Sky would ever get on board with something like that, or if they'll stay in bed with Openreach

Re: Sky will be looking to run trials of fibre-optic broadband
The Fujitsu money doesn't add up, they want to invest £2 billion of their own money and bid for the £500 million of the BDUK money that local councils will get.
This 2.5 Billion to cover 5 million rural properties is just not enough for FTTP or even FTTC
I wonder if they are planning to install Digital Villiage pumps at the end of a fibre run to a village wich would be a lot cheaper.
But like most plans it is only an announcement with some vauge promises and no real meat to the proposals.I'm a PC, and Windows 7 Backup saved my sanity when BitDefender imploded !!!
