No way to say for definite until they announce more details on it. They'll probably offer their own router with it, as Scubbie and I have said, probably a Sagemcom 2504N with upgraded firmware. But AFAIK, the Openreach GEA product is open in that there isn't a way of restricting what router connects to the network with Sky using that method of connection. However, I maybe wrong so we'll have to play the waiting game.

yep we will have to wait but all i can say is if sky get a new router its going to be very costly to keep releasing new routers every time. but time will tell indeed.

Re: Sky will be looking to run trials of fibre-optic broadband
Openreach own and maintain the copper and fiber lines from the exchange to the end user properties.
Just like adsl now uses openreachs coper to the exchange then switches to either BTW's network or the cp's own network if they have LLU in the exchange the same is for fiber except openreach supply and maintain the modem at the property too as part of their fiber network, this allows access to the fiber lines back to the exchange then again switch to either BTW's network or in sky's case their own network where they have LLU at the exchange.

Re: Sky will be looking to run trials of fibre-optic broadband
You will
you already get 18Mbit'ish, i don't know what difference you think 37.5Mbit (BTO DSLAM dont forget) will make but i guarantee you this, you wont notice a difference in your general surfing and your downloads will be only be twice as quick providing the server you are downloading from can hack it.
The biggest difference for me was the incredible reliability and the upload speed simply because thats the slowest bit, thats actualy the bit that holds you back.
Anyway why the sudden change of heart? When everyone was getting it on other ISPs wernt you the one dismissing it ROFL.

Mmmm, interesting.
I just logged into 'my sky' and saw this:
We're currently updating our systems - while we are doing this orders are not available online or over the phone.
You can still choose your products and email your basket to complete your order when normal service is resumed on Friday.
A Fibre option by the weekend?

Re: Sky will be looking to run trials of fibre-optic broadband
I’ve seen lots of FTTC cabs being installed in my area and openreach vans installing cable, they seem to be working there way down the road so hopefully my cab should be soon
