Re: Sky will be looking to run trials of fibre-optic broadband
Certainly this will be a topic that we shall be watching with great interest.
Some members on the Netgear forums have successfully connected their DGND3700s to BT Infinity connections, so it looks good for myself (selfish I know).
There are also hacks available for the BTO Modem, including a custom firmware. Until we start seeing the kit that is supplied with the SBUF package, it wouldn't be suitable to say whether this will work though.
Once the FAQs have got to a state where they can be left for a short period, and the SkyUser site has moved across, I'll look at getting some suitable threads rolling, unless someone beats me to it of course.

Re: Sky will be looking to run trials of fibre-optic broadband
It's been rumoured that the current routers or at least the Sagemcom 2504N can have a firmware upgrade to make an ethernet port into a WAN one. Whether it'll turn out that way remains to be seen.

Re: Sky will be looking to run trials of fibre-optic broadband
I can't recall the make, it wasn't a common one for the home market, but someone did mention that a different router may be supplied.
It has also been mentioned on a few occasions that the Sagem Path F@ST 2504N may have a specific firmware available to allow it to work on a Cable connection.
It would be a lovely coo if Sky could supply a full 300mb/s router with USB ports.
BT, O2 & PlusNet supply routers with USB ports. BT's WiFi is 144mb/s on their latest HomeHub, but I can't recall the WiFi speeds for PlusNet and O2 at the moment.
Other ISPs also supply routers with much more oomph than Sky's Sagem 2504N.

Re: Sky will be looking to run trials of fibre-optic broadband
well it will certainly be interesting to know weather they supply a compatible router or leave it as it is. because if they supply a router for fttc you can guarantee they will lock it down like previous ones meaning there would be no need for the bt modem lol.

Re: Sky will be looking to run trials of fibre-optic broadband
The Openreach modem will still be needed for the foreseeable future, unless Sky have got a deal with the router manufacturers to give them a bargain basement price on the kit. That, though, is very doubtful!
