Re: Sky will be looking to run trials of fibre-optic broadband
I can't remember where I posted this but I'll post again.
According to Itsme, Ofcom has ruled that BT can make a profit out of wholesale fibre products.
This means the big ISP's will be given a price by BT which will be take it or leave it which will leave them very little scope to make a profit.
I wonder if there is a "wait and see" for the big ISP's to see how many customers leave to go with a fibre provider and then decide when they have lost a certain amount.
Given that Virgin only managed to attract 76,000 customers in the first year of their 50 meg product they may decide that they can lose that sort of numbers as they are the tech savvy ones who "annoy" them anyways.I'm a PC, and Windows 7 Backup saved my sanity when BitDefender imploded !!!

Re: Sky will be looking to run trials of fibre-optic broadband
Aye possibly. But then, you can't advertise a "trial" of this type and then not expect queries when it appears that BT are rolling out the actual product throughout the country regardless.
In my mind, a "trial" indicates a small number of people right at the beginning of the roll-out (or prior to). Which doesn't appear to be happening at the moment.

Anyone with any news on this matter.
Our exchange has had BT Infinity for months now I don’t want to change to BT so I wish Sky would pull their finger out

dont know whats going on maybe they have to wait or something to get activated or something but really it shouldnt make any difference i mean yea sky would have to upgrade routers left right and centre but it shouldnt take long to get going

Re: Sky will be looking to run trials of fibre-optic broadband
IDnet and Zen are offering fibre packages as well as BT if you don;t want to go back to them.
I have no idea when Sky, O2 etc will enter the fibre market, I assume that it is still boiling down to price and that a BTOpenreach engineer needs to come round and install the VDSL modem.
I would expect that if one of the bigger ISP's, most likely plusnet as they are owned by BT, takes the plunge then the rest will follow fast.I'm a PC, and Windows 7 Backup saved my sanity when BitDefender imploded !!!

I think it's down to the fact even though OFCOM has announced Virtual Unbundled Local Access and Physical Infrastructure Access, BT has yet to say how much this will be to the third parties (O2, Sky ect). Same thing happened when LLU came to be.
