Re: Operation Save Energy
My kids are going to hate me, its the hols & my son is on it all day instead of just the usual 6 hours.
He is wacking it up a constant 400+ watts.
I was sat here last night & it was over 1kw instead of our basic 167 ish.
The Freezer takes 90w on its own, I wonder if it is better to have it on a timer so its off for a few hours overnight?

Re: Operation Save Energy
If you can't keep it full with food, then one thing you can do is fill the spaces with bottles of water. They will freeze and a full freezer is more efficient and cheaper to run.

Re: Operation Save Energy
Ok, the kids hate me and my wife thinks we can have an holiday next year, lol....
The biggest surprise has been the dishwasher with over 2500 watts and I bought it to save money on the washing up !!!
The next biggest is my TV, 42" Plasma Panasonic, with SKY HD with around 350 watts.
My computer uses around 200 watts, which was a surprise really as I thought it would have been fairly low.
The fridge/freezer uses a low amount of around 50 watts and only increases to around 100 watts when chilling, lasting about five minutes, which is not bad really.
The sad thing is I find myself looking at the display during the day and shouting at the kids to turn off lights, tv's located in various rooms etc. The one thing that has made me change my attitude is the power items use whilst on standby and when we leave the house or go to bed, Ive started unplugging everything.
My current electric/gas bill is £127.00 per month, but with this great bit of equipment Im hoping to get it below £100 and maybe nearer £80 per month, unless the kids lock me out lol...

Re: Operation Save Energy
There is no doubt those kids need to go and make their own way in the world. They just cost to much!
I have suggested just a for a change we do a swap. Me and the wife pay them board at the same rate they pay us. In turn they take over every thing else.
Did the spread sheet for them so they don't miss payments etc.
Mortgage
Gas
Elec
Council tax
Insurance
Repairs
They looked at the finale cost and laughed .said they dont earn enough to cover it all.
That's funny Neither do I! Yet you think that's ok to continue using elec like you do ?
Think the penny has dropped at last

Re: Operation Save Energy
Thats it... had to just sit everyone down and explain how their actions are costing me money, which ended up with my wife having to sit me down because I was getting stressed, especially when I saw the meter when everyone was having showers and using hair dryers etc, lmao...
I suppose we dont realise how much everything is costing us and take it for granted that the power fairy or a neighbour is stealing our power lol..
So its official, Im going green and going to make a conscious effort to start doing my bit, but its not me Im worried about, its the kids, they think its funny with me shouting TURN IT OFF... I just keep telling them about the ozone and that they are going to kill the polar bears heheheh.... well its working..
