Re: Sky Phase 1 Firmware upgrade confirmed!!!!
Just wondering but is it best to change the SSID and the passcode for the router or just the passcode?

Re: Sky Phase 1 Firmware upgrade confirmed!!!!
Change either or both
The passcode would be better to change, and make it something unguessable. If your really want to get all security conscious turn off the SSID and become invisible! You can code it in manually on your PC/Mac, it just wont be discoverable too easily.

Re: Sky Phase 1 Firmware upgrade confirmed!!!!
You really have to change the password (network key) from its default value, because the default value can be calculated from your router's MAC address (which in turn is very easily found).
There's little value in disabling SSID broadcasting. Anyone who intends to hack into your network will be able to pass through that particular piece of "security" without any problem at all. And it can be an inconvenience to you and your neighbours. Say you're on channel 6 and your neighbour decides to get a wireless router. They might look around at neighbouring networks and see nothing on channel 6, so they decide to use that channel. And it's not just your neighbour who would suffer, in those circumstances but it would be you as well. In fact, I would actually advice against disabling SSID broadcasting.

Although it does cut down on the list of wireless connections available to anybody wandering around.
IMHO to be invisible when there are so many other routers, including some using there name or in some cases there addressas their SSID, is another albeit insignificant level of security.

Re: Sky Phase 1 Firmware upgrade confirmed!!!!
So just to update everyone, after complaining that my upgrade hadn't gone well my new router arrived yesterday, it was a refurb grade A V1 model and didn't even have the FW upgrade on it.
I've upgraded it and it seems to be very stable, so Im not complaining

Re: Sky Phase 1 Firmware upgrade confirmed!!!!
Hi, all.
I wonder if any of you know if a change to my router lights is due to a firmware upgrade or something unrelated?
Up until yesterday, when the router started, the power light came on green, as did the wireless symbol (green) and number 1 (green). The 'i' symbol used to flash orange, then turn green, with a "hidden" green light coming on (visible through the slots at the top of the router) next to the green wireless light.
But today, when the router restarts, the 'i' symbol flashes orange, stays on orange solidly for a few seconds, then turns green. The "hidden" green light doesn't come on at all. The connection seems the same as ever, though, with router stats as usual.
Any information would be appreciated, thanks.

Re: Sky Phase 1 Firmware upgrade confirmed!!!!
@MikeLeeds
Yes the changes are due to the new firmware.
The hidden LED used to come on when you were authenticated by the server (that is when you were given your I.P. address).
Now the "i" LED turns green at that time.
I assume this is how it was always supposed to work, or else there would have been no reason to hide that LED.
I also think the new behaviour is bringing the V1 routers into line with the V2's.
