a) no the router doesn't
b) even if it did, if sky have restricted the server to have the update at certain times, then it wouldn't matter how often it checked, the update wouldn't be there.

Re: Sky Phase 1 Firmware upgrade confirmed!!!!
So if I don't leave my router on 24/7 then I might not get the update? That is silly.
My router often needs rebooting to keep alive so leaving it on 24/7 is pointless.

Re: Sky Phase 1 Firmware upgrade confirmed!!!!
I think what is believed at the moment is that Sky will attemp to upgrade ALL routers on a specific exchange during one night.
Should any miss the upgrade, for whatever reason, then the upgrade will still be available 24 hrs a day after that night. So your router could theoretically upgrade during the day.
Have I got it right?

Re: Sky Phase 1 Firmware upgrade confirmed!!!!
From my latest examination of how this works, it looks like Sky can trigger an update during the early hours of the morning, by putting your router's MAC address into the list of routers to be updated, and then forcing your connection to drop. When the router reconnects, it checks immediately to see if an update is available. But obviously, that procedure won't work if you normally leave the router switched off overnight.
The router also maintains a record of when it last checked for an update, and if, when the router is switched on, it sees that it hasn't checked for an update for a few days, it will do a check shortly after, regardless of what the time is.
That way, even if you leave the router switched off at night, or even if you've left it off while you've gone away, the router will eventually download the update.
