There is nothing wrong with Change unless it trumps Choice.
Those who want a choice of whether and when to upgrade should
vote “Yes” here.

“When this poll started 100% of users voted for Sky
to do whatever it wanted, whenever it wanted and without telling
it’s customers what it was doing and when it was doing it.
This has now fallen to 60%."-

Re: Sky Phase 1 Firmware upgrade confirmed!!!!
I'm pretty sure that the router doesn't check every single day to see if there's an upgrade available. And there simply isn't any way that Sky can "push" the firmware on to the router, it has to be "pulled" from Sky.
If you've got telnet enabled on the router, you can tell when it last checked for an update by typing the following command:Code:ls -l /tmp/debugaaa
Code:-rw-r--r-- 1 0 0 496 Mar 27 04:05 /tmp/debugaa

Re: Sky Phase 1 Firmware upgrade confirmed!!!!
I may be wrong, but if Sky wanted to upgrade your router, surely all they would have to do is mass kick you offline?
Once they have kicked you offline then the router would check on resync to the exchange if there is an outstanding update and then apply.~ Never, ever, argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience ~

Re: Sky Phase 1 Firmware upgrade confirmed!!!!
The time and date the router last checked for an update is stored in NVRAM, so dropping people's connections doesn't force the router to check for an upgrade, nor does rebooting the router (even if Sky could do that remotely).
Speaking of NVRAM, I think the most reliable way to determine when the router last checked for an update would be to type this command on the router…Code:nvram get prov_last_attempt_time

Also if Sky plan to send out the update as "off peak" times. Only problem is the router only starts checking for updates like 5 - 10minutes after a reboot then try 3 times.

Re: Sky Phase 1 Firmware upgrade confirmed!!!!
It only does that when you switch the router on for the first time. You can reboot your router as much as you like afterwards and it will not contact the update server until it's ready to do so.
However, if you blank the NVRAM settings that relate to the update program running on the router and then reboot it, it will think that it's being started for the first time and check for the new firmware. This is how you can force an update check, but even then, there's nothing to stop Sky disabling the update servers outside of an off-peak window (say from 6am to midnight). In that situation, the update check will fail, and then in a few days' time when it checks again, this time in the early hours of the morning, the update will be downloaded and flashed.
