using old skybox to play old recordings

A friend of mine, has just had there sky box replaced
      BUT
      the old box (2009 - skyHD+)
has a lot of recodings on they would still like to watch

I coonect the box to a TV using scart and with no other connection
And it switched the TV to AV input - so the TV detected a device
      BUT nothing happened

Is it possible to use a skybox standalone with no cable/sat connection ?
so we can play the recordings on a different TV

Hi etaf and welcome to the forum.

With no satellite signal being received the box will not complete initialisation though it should display an on screen (Please wait) message. It would be possible to use a long mains extension lead so that the box can be disconnected from the dish and moved once initialisation is complete.

A viewing card with an active Sky plus subscription is required to play free to air recordings though for encrypted recordings it also has to be the same card used to make the recording or an associated multi-screen (not multi-room) viewing card.

The box must be connected to a dish and be paired with the card used to make the recordings before you can do anything with it. The only ways you can watch the recordings is to re-pair the card with the box, or transfer the recordings to the new HDD using ExPVR.

You can re-pair the card on line but I don't know how often you can do so before it fails. - https://skyid.sky.com/signin/helpcen...com%2Factivate
