      EPG update

A new v7 update will start to be rolled out this week to customers.

*new and improved software notification system, when your box now updates an on screen message will let you know it has done so and pressing select will take you to a help page so you can read what's new.

*single box customers can now use their broadband instead of their phone line for PPV purchases, but phone line is still needed for sky active at the moment. Not available for multiroom customers.

*better clash management is now in use, and overall stability of box has greatly improved.

Been using it for two weeks and its really stable!

      only for DRX890/5 boxes

How have they improved the 'better clash management'?

Re: Sky+ HD STB Firmware Versions

Well I was going to post this...

Well folks it hasn't been too long since the last big update from Sky and we have another for you.

      The new version is R007.061.49.00P.

Like before this will be a staggered roll-out, so for anyone who hasn't received the update yet, please do be patient. Sky do this to help the call centres should something have been missed in testing and the beta trials.

Provided that the update doesn't have any major issues, the update should take between 6-8 weeks to complete. Once we know it is on the DR Stream we'll update the EPG Version thread, so if anyone notices this, please let us know.

This update doesn't have any of those really major changes that we have seen over the past year or so, but it does tidy up some features which we have all had access to for some time and perhaps could be a little better.

So what is included in this update?

The first thing you will notice is an in-screen message advising you that your STB has received an update. Pressing the <Select> button, as prompted, will take you to the Settings -> Software page where the first page will list a summary of recent updates. Previously you just found yourself on channel 998 with no explanation.

The Network and System Details screens have been slightly changed. Things should be a little easier for connecting the Sky WiFi adaptors.

Should you find yourself adding a recording that clashes with two previous planned recordings, the on-screen prompts are a lot better than previously. Hopefully there will be less confusion now.

Finally, perhaps what may become a gateway for a major improvement in future, but not yet, is the ability to order PPV events when your STB is connected to the Internet and not a telephone line. Also the STB can now use this to perform a 'call-back' to Sky's servers to ensure that the STB is connected in the UK.

This will mean that for anyone who doesn't have a Multi-room setup and has their STB connected via just the Internet, they will no longer have to telephone Sky to book any PPV events. It also means that you can download content from the Sky Store if you only have an Internet connection.

Sadly for the present time, for those who have a multi-room setup, the telephone connection is still required. I do not know if the development team will be able to get a suitable workaround for this yet, but if they can I believe that it will be a popular change.

We don't know yet when Sky are going to start actually rolling it out but based upon previous experience I would suggest Wednesday night this or next week.

      Re: EPG update

Clash management was something that I had complained to Sky about. When adding a recording that clashes with two previous planned recordings the on screen message gives you the option of pressing backup or select to continue. Having been conditioned to always obey the last order I would press select which was invariably the wrong option. It will be interesting to find out how it has changed.

      Re: EPG update

The logical thing would be to suggest an alternate time/date to record the program, but maybe that is hoping for too much.

      Re: EPG update

Currently the Sky+ App can suggest all this (i.e. alternate times) but there is no feedback from the STB when this is required.

As for the STB itself, yes it would be nice to have alternative broadcasts listed of an episode. Also for it to link in with the On Demand content, suggesting the possibility of downloading a programme or film instead when there is a clash.

Because the planner info is loaded into the app when you are connected to the same network as the box, I can't see that it would be too difficult to check for clashes within the app because no extra feedback is required from the box. Of course the only issue is when you are out and about and you don't get the data from the planner.

Or just pop you into search with the program name already populated.
