      2.5" hard drive in a sky+hd box (DRX890)

Hi guys, i have a 2.5" 500gb hard drive here and i am wondering if i can use this in my DRX890 since the 3.5" seagate pipline is way to noisey! Ive done a bit of testing and ive made a caddy what the 2.5" drive will fit nicely it matches specs but its rated 5v 700ma where as the 3.5" uses 12v if i connect up my 2.5" will it cause damage or will it only put out the 5v needed? From my point of view it makes sense to install 2.5" drives as standard 1. Less noise 2. Less heat 3. Less power meaning that its less stress on the psu and less heat!

      Thanks guys!!

The drive will have a different error correction process to that required for a PVR, such as the Sky+ HD STB.

You would be better off getting a drive intended for a PVR.

      Re: 2.5" hard drive in a sky+hd box (DRX890)

Hello, I put a 2.5'' drive in my DRX890, It works great, although I had to get a mounting screw from an old laptop cause the 3.5'' drive screws are too big, and I only have one screw in as I didn't have a caddy, But it's quiet and works great

So yes, a 2.5'' drive does work in a sky box, well a DRX890 anyway.

      Re: 2.5" hard drive in a sky+hd box (DRX890)

Has anyone put a 2.5 drive in a Samsung sky hd box? Pretty sure these are fine with 1TB drives (standard 3.5 at least)
I'm assuming as 2.5 drives are reportedly ok in other more common boxes (although beyond this thread I can't find anything supporting this) that it would be ok in an older Samsung box.
