      patchy signal problem

      Greetings,

Went on holiday the other week and our sky box was working perfectly fine. Got back from holiday on the same day as a major freak storm hit the area i live in and since then we have signal drop outs whenever the wind picks up. It can work fine for hours then all of a sudden the picture starts breaking up and the sound drops out, can be for a moment or minutes at a time, sometimes to the point the signal drops completely. It seems to happen whenever we get strong winds. Any suggestions what could be causing this and is it worth an engineer call out?

      Many thanks
      James

Is the dish where you can see it to check whether anything is fouling it or for other signs of storm damage? Could the original storm have loosened the dish fixings or moved the dish? Is the Sky installation still in warranty? If not there could be a 65 charge for an engineers visit, though this also provides a three month warranty against any further problems.

      Re: patchy signal problem

Will have a look tonight, im on a gf flat so its quite low but not enough for me to get to i dont think. I recently upgraded to the hd service but have had sky around 4 years so im guessing the install is no longer in warranty. Is the 65 a flat fee or will there be costs if parts need replacing etc?

      Re: patchy signal problem

The 65 is a flat fee. If your Sky box was replaced when you upgraded to HD even if it was delivered by parcel force, then (if less than 1 year ago) the box will still be under warranty. Although unlikely the problem could be the box, in which case a free engineer's visit would be authorised. If the engineer then finds that the problem is actually the dish or its mountings you will not receive a subsequent charge.

Bugger, i think the box warranty ran out a the beginning of June, typical. Not to worry, gotta get it fixed either way. Thanks for your advice.
