      DRX895 still no new firmware

DRX895-C Version 4f3162 still stuck on firmware R005.053.70.15P, the DRX890 in the other room got the update a few days ago but it seems like they don't want to update this box.
Wonder why? Or is it just taking a bit longer... would like to get rid of the optical cable to the HT amp

They are indeed still rolling it out, but it will be over a 2 month period, or there abouts.

Sky tends to roll out the public versions of the firmware in a gradual manner. This way any potential disruption caused from a previously undiscovered issue/bug has the least impact.

That's fair enough, just wondered why they would do one box and not the other

Re: DRX895 still no new firmware

I don't know how they select the STBs to receive the update, but although they do work hard to ensure the least amount of impact, I would suggest it was better to receive the update to one and not the other.

Oh I agree it's better than 'bricking' both boxes with a 'dodgy' update. But isn't that what the beta test program is for? <grin>

Think it is done by viewing card number. I take it that your viewing cards are not consecutively numbered. You could always swap the two boxes round as a temporary measure to check that HDMI 5.1 sound works ok with your HT amplifier unless having wrong recordings available would be a show stopper.

Re: DRX895 still no new firmware

Yes the Beta group have picked up a huge number of issues and the chances of 'bricking' your Sky+ HD STB are very slim.

Perhaps if I were to mention the 'Denon' issue as one example where a specific problem wasn't picked up in testing. This issue has now been identified and the new firmware resolves it. It was first picked up and reported to this forum around 26th September 2012 and the first fix was rolled out in mid-December. Sadly it didn't work 100% and after subsequent testing it was found that the latest firmware had the fix within it. As a result many of those affected were placed on the Beta firmware.

I can't even begin to list all the different issues which have been picked up since last year when the beta testing first began. Other than being forbidden from discussing them, as a group we have picked up a lot. However it is quite apparent that the different combinations of TVs, AVR, HTs, splitters, etc. out there can affect things.

The beta group is still very active and picking up those tiny irritating issues which you may not otherwise notice, except on rare occasions. There aren't any known "show stoppers", but we are still working hard.

As for seawright's suggestion that it may be by viewing card number, pass. This is something handled in-house and not discussed with the Beta Groups or Super Users.
