Sky+ HD STB Firmware Versions
Hi folks,
In a small effort to help you keep up to date with which firmware is being rolled out and what is on the DR Stream, we have composed the table below.
There are some gaps and I would appreciate any feedback to help complete those. If there are future updates that you spot before this table gets updated, please let us know and either myself or one of the other moderators can update the table.
Please also keep any faults/problems to other threads.
To find out the make and model of your STB, please look at the back panel of your Sky+ HD STB. To check the firmware version, using your remote control, please do the following:
Press <Services> <Right> <Down> 3
The firmware version is the 1st number on the list, the 'Model Number' is the 2nd number.
Thank you.

In order to get the version on the DR Stream, you will need to perform a forced update. To do this, please do the following:
- Power off your Sky+ HD STB at the mains
- Press and hold the <Backup> button on the top of the box (NB: Not the remote control!)
- Power on the Sky+ HD STB at the mains, whilst continuing to hold the <Backup> button
- Keep holding the <Backup> button until either the four LEDs on the front, to the right of the centre of the Sky box illuminate or the display on your TV confirms that the process has begun
The update process will take between 10 to 20 minutes to complete. Once completed press the <Sky> button on your Sky remote control to turn it on properly.

04-07-2014: Update on Thomson model: As from May/June 2014 any Sky subscribers with this model were asked to contact Sky for a replacement via a prompt on the Sky HD channels. This STB will no longer work with any Sky HD channel. If you still have this model then it is recommended that you consider replacing it with a DRX890, DRX895, DRX890W or DRX895W. Local second hand shops tend to be the best value. Others may follow.Last edited by Scubbie; 14-03-18 at 12:03 PM. Reason: Updated info

Re: Sky+ HD STB Firmware Versions
As firmware did not upgrade automatically I performed a forced update and can confirm, Amstrad / Sky DRX890 4f31d6 R005.053.70.12P (4m7tvzo) is available via DR stream.

Re: Sky+ HD STB Firmware Versions
Here are the versions I have found on the download streams. I think that all except the Grundig are on the DR Stream (there are 2 streams that I have found, one cycles between around 5 firmwares every 15 minutes or so and the other has the same firmware for 1-2 days, I am guessing the 'fast' one is the DR stream).

Re: Sky+ HD STB Firmware Versions
I know Thomson boxes won't receive anymore firmware updates but looking at mrmt32's last post, does this mean that it is not possible to refresh the firmware on a Thomson as an alternative to a system reset to prevent the loss of existing recordings?

Re: Sky+ HD STB Firmware Versions
I believe that a system reset only reformats the hard drive.
Since the firmware on the Thomson model has been fixed for some time now, I cannot see any reason to keep it on the DR Stream.
I would love to have a Thomson and a new DRX890/895 sat side by side so that I can compare the HD pictures. My new one has a better picture than previously and old Thomson users have always maintained that it produces the better picture. Otherwise i would encourage people to move on from the Thomson and get themselves a new DRX890 or DRX895.

Re: Sky+ HD STB Firmware Versions
If the box becomes unresponsive and a power reset doesn't help there are only two alternatives. 1. System Reset using <left+right> buttons but this deletes everything in the planner. or 2. Forced software download. I take it that without a download stream (2) is no longer possible on Thomson boxes.

Re: Sky+ HD STB Firmware Versions
I don't think that a forced software download would fix anything if there is no newer software version. All it does is download the same firmware you already have and rewrite it to the flash chip, so there will be no change (the firmware will not be modified by the box in normal operation).
It does seem that the Thompson does not have any firmware being transmitted for it any more, which makes sense as all of the Thompson boxes should have been updated to the last released version by now, and the more firmwares on the stream the longer it will take for all the other boxes to do a forced download. You can't request a certain file over a satellite, Sky have to send everything, so it just cycles through each firmware; the box has to wait for all the other firmwares to be transmitted before it can download the correct one.
