Re: Sky+ HD STB Firmware Versions
Welcome to the forum geaves. Nice to see that you find this thread interesting and useful.
Knowing what the development team wanted to do and having had some hints earlier on in the year about the abilities of the Pace, Samsung and DRX780 STBs, I do not think that Dolby Digital over HDMI will be something that will be added to these boxes.
If this feature is important to you, then I would suggest that you look into getting one of the DRX89x series. Depending on which offers are being made available to you via Sky, you may be able to get a new 2TB DRX895W for £49, but this isn't available to everyone.
Other options include purchasing a second hand DRX890 or DRX895. I would recommend checking your local shops first though as in many cases they can be cheaper than via sites such as eBay. I have seen a couple of DRX890s for sale in Portsmouth recently for £25 and know that in parts of Yorkshire they can be picked up for £15, so do look around first.

Thanks Scubbie...

The only reason for having Dolby over HDMI, reduces leads and remote's as I use a cinema system, so X number of HDMI's in but only 1 out to TV so Sky remote controls everything except for HDMI switching on the cinema system.
Simples....

Re: Sky+ HD STB Firmware Versions
Since the new STB will also come a 12 month warranty, that is a nice deal.
I have a 2TB DRX895 and it is working well, even under test conditions. The extra storage space is really nice. Previously I had a DRX890 with my own 2TB drive but something went wrong with the drive or STB.
The new version (DRX895W) has a built-in WiFi adaptor, although I still prefer Ethernet. I am using the Mini WiFi adaptor on my DRX890 for test reasons. I believe that both the adaptors use a similar or identical chipset.
Do look at the prices in the shops though. Try to get one of the more recent ones if you have a choice, but don't let on you know which is which. You can identify these by the word "3D On Demand" on the front left of the box.

Re: Sky+ HD STB Firmware Versions
Hi Scubbie, you've mentioned shops selling second hand boxes being cheaper than ebay many times but what sort of shops are these? I don't know of any in the Milton Keynes area that sell them.

Re: Sky+ HD STB Firmware Versions
Unfortunately I don't know Milton Keynes that well.
The shop I visited in Portsmouth was a second hand shops that buys and sells a variety of electrical equipment, just off Commercial Road (the main shopping area in Portsmouth). There are a selection of other second hand shops around Portsmouth. I haven't visited them all, just this one for a quick browse.
Ca$h Converters is a national chain, but they normally put a large price tag of around £40-£50 on the Sky+ HD STBs.
A friend in Yorkshire found a similar independent shop near where she lives (again Ca$h Converters priced them up at £40-£50) where they were selling them for £15.

Re: Sky+ HD STB Firmware Versions
Sorry, I wasn't expecting you to direct me to any particular shop. I'm just not aware of any shops that sell 2nd hand sky boxes. There are a few in the burbs that sell washing machines and the like but I'm not aware of a thriving market for Sky boxes.

Re: Sky+ HD STB Firmware Versions
No problem. Hopefully the advice will help some who may wish to save a few pennies when changing their Sky+ HD STB.
Just a reminder though, for anyone who does not have a SkyHD or Sky+ STB, please check via your My Sky account first. Often Sky will give you a free Sky+ HD STB when you sign up to a HD pack if you have the Sky or Sky+ HD.Last edited by Scubbie; 04-12-13 at 07:24 PM. Reason: Corrected typo

Sky+ HD STB Firmware Versions
Hi,
I have just self installed DRX895W but I cannot enforce a software update. I hold down the backup button on the STB and then press the SKY button on the remote but nothing happens. Has anybody any ideas?
The installed firmware is R.007.061.49.00P
