      Merging programs onto one box

      Hi there,

A friend of mine has an old Sky+ Box and a new Sky+ HD Box. She has a variety of things recorded on the old box that she would like to keep. Iíve been reading through the various threads and have spent most of last night and today in this section of the forum, but I havenít seen if anyone has tried what I am now looking to do.

Sheís already started using the new box and recorded more things that she would like to keep for posterity.

What I would like to do is to transfer just the programs to the new box, effectively merging the contents of both onto one drive.

Does anyone know if this is possible and how to go about it? I have the necessary external hard drive cases to connect the drive to a PC and am competent with a screw driver & playing with the drives.

      Yours,
      Scubbie

There is no way to do this. You cannot transfer shows from one box to another.

You can copy from drive to drive using Sky Copy+. Unfortunately, the software ( Sky Copy+ ), does not allow for 'merging' on the recipient drive. The software completely overwrites the recipient drive with the image of the old drive. Have a read of the link so you can see what exactly can/cannot be done. If you have an HD box with the latest Anytime+ software ( SYSF in system details ), there may be a problem playing back recordings made on a non updated box. Ask on the Sky Copy+ forum.

Thank you both for your responses. I had read up about Copy+. As you point out it doesn't allow you to merge programs onto one drive.

I had been hoping that someone might have written a program to rebuild the Planner list and add the new programs or that the box might automatically find them and add the to the list.

Another option I thought about was rebuilding the Planner. This would be no good as from reading other posts the process actually wipes the recordings from the drive, leaving you with nothing.

What I may now need to think about is a combination of the following:

      1. Free-to-air programs - Copy onto her Laptop or an external drive she has and work from there (i.e. burn onto DVD or leave so she can play them on her Laptop

      2. Encrypted programs - Copy onto a spare SATA drive & install said drive into her Sky+ HD box. Play the programs & record them onto DVD. Reinstall the original Hard Drive into the Sky+ HD box.

Not ideal, but it will do the job. It will take some time to copy the films, etc. to DVD, but we both have the software and hardware to do this.

      Thanks,
      Scubbie
