Interesting Rumour From My HD Install

Hi All. I finally had my Sky HD put in on Sat. First, well chuffed with the new smaller cable's from the dish, much tidier. Got an Amstrad which is so quiet, much better than my old Sky+box. I Forced update the epg after installer had gone so all seems ok so far, to much anti Amstrad info about but seems great box!?. Anyway, i digress. I got talking to the installer and he said on the quiet that Sky had done a deal with Apple to allow movie downloads over the internet via the ethernet port on the HD boxes, said more info over the next few months. Seemed very genuine and excited about it, time will tell if true i guess. Any thoughts?

Dunno about the Apple side.... why would sky get in bed with Apple when it already deals direct with the movie companies!!!!! It didn't do a deal with apple for Sky Songs!

Anyhow, VOD (Video on Demand) is no secret where you download movies etc thru your sky box over the internet via ethernet. VOD is due very very soon.

Very unlikely to be with apple as they are already in bed with Microsoft with the Xbox and Windows media center.

Also as they already have sky player I'd reckon the HD boxes will be hooking into that anyways.
I'm a PC, and Windows 7 Backup saved my sanity when BitDefender imploded !!!

Apple has the movie download market nicely organised with iTunes. So it's just remotely possible that Apple might be the best choice to handle the streams, which will require huge server power (which Apple already has).

Anything Sky would do does not surprise me. As for servers and BW - that's something sky have in abundance. They own their own ISP.

      It's possible I guess though.

The most likely rumour is Apple turns to Murdoch for iSlate content ? The Register where Apple are talking to Murdoch owned companies about sourcing content for their soon to be released iSlate product. Personally I prefer a proper book that never crashes - this seems technology for the sake of technology.

My uncle works for Sky, he was told to plug in his ethernet port on his HD box by Sky for some kind of download, he didn't really know much more than that though...
