No Signal message makes no sense

I have a Thomson sky plus box which is about 2 years old, perhaps older. I was a major subscriber, but like many I am guessing cancelled all when I realised that I would get many free sky channels without subscription some time ago. Since then all has been well until yesterday when I was unable to get BBC and Chanell 5 all of a sudden - the box says "MiniTV Unavailable No Satelite Signal".

The set up in my house has sky plus in the front room and a second ordinary box in the kids room coming from teh same dish. I am still getting all of the usual channels in the kids room and there is no problem with the wireing. I have reset by doing a complete switch off and restart a couple of minutes later but the same fault comes back.

As I am no longer spending 80 quid a month on subscriptions I can't ring sky to help, so I searched for help and found this site. I hope someone out there can help as Eastenders is a key part of my wife's day and to not be able to sit with her cup of tea and watch it in her front room may lead to serious marriage difficulties (I fear for not just the marriage but our childrens safety!!).

Any help would be very gratefully received.

      Thanks in advance - Mark

Sounds like the box has given up.

It's a Thomson so look for bulging PSU capacitors.
