Samsung - Problem with Recording and Signal

      Hello all,

I moved house a couple of months agao and since then I have had quite a few problems.

Firstly, I was unable to record. If I set up a recording then when it is actually recording I lose some channels and 9/10 the recording will fail as the channel I have set to record will be one that no longer works.

Right now I am unable to view quite a few channels. Such as, channel 5 (105) and all of the SKy Sports channels (including HD versions). The display I receive is 'no satellite signal being received'. This started to happen on Saturday and I put it down to rain as the signal strength was fine but it is still the same apart from the signal 2 strength is zero.

I first had Sky installed in my home in November. I now live in an apartment with a communal dish. I have no idea if this problem is being experienced by others who live here.

Feel free to use laymans terms in reply to this post,

      Thanks in advance.

Have you tried swapping the feeds at the back of your box? If the prob then becomes no feed on No1 then you know it's the "supply" so to speak, if it's still No2, then have you tried recording one prog and watching another at the same time? Some Samsungs don't actually seem to need the feed until this is done...

      Post and let us know...

If you're sharing a communal dish, you'll probably only have one feed into the back of the digibox, so the Sky+ functions on the box won't work properly.

Re: Samsung - Problem with Recording and Signal

My Input 2 Signal Strength now has a reading but still I can't watch many channels. When I switch them over the problem is then on Input 1.

I have two feeds coming from 2 separate sockets in the wall.

I have a spare lead so I'm going to try that.

(Edit: I've tried the new lead and the same thing happens; Input 1 is full but nothing or not much on Input 2, swap them and then its the other way round)

Re: Samsung - Problem with Recording and Signal

Not many communal systems have two working feeds from the satellite dish & distribution box . Usually only the one. You may well have two cables coming from the faceplate on the wall, but only one will actually be connected to the distribution box for the flats. Hence, you are restricted to Single Feed only, and will not have the full functionality of a Sky+ dual-feed setup ( eg recording one channel and watching another at the same time ).. Were you specifically told that you had two working feeds?

Assuming you only have one live feed, put it on Input 1 at the back of the digibox. If you have the new EPG ( with the mini tv in the Planner ), you'll have to enable Single Feed Mode. See:

Switching The Singe Feed Mode to 'ON'

You'll be able to set up planned recordings, so long as you are not watching something different when these are taking place. Also, Sky Anytime is disabled in Single Feed Mode.

If you've got the old EPG, setting up planned recordings with only one feed is more complicated. See this method as an example:

Planned Recordings With Single Feed Only.

I have no mini TV on the planner so I presume I have the old one.

Do I have to change to single feed to get the other channels working too?

There's nothing to change on the old EPG. You should be getting all channels to view live anyway, even with a single feed. If you're getting 'No Satellite Signal' messages while simply watching live tv ( ie not recording ), you may have a problem with your system ( dish/LNB/cable ) and you'll have to talk to the property owners/factors. Is anybody else in the building getting problems?

Channels such as channel 5 and sports channels aren't working, whether Iam recording or not but before a couple of weeks ago they all worked fine although recording has always been an issue.
