Giving away my HD sky box
I am leaving the country and was going to give my sky HD box to my father in law, question is will it work on HIS existing sky system? He has an ordinary sky box, (NO sky+ or sky+hd) which is about 5 years old. Will his card work in my box, obviously i know he wouldnt recieve the HD channels, but he's not bothered with that, its just the sky+ side of things that he wants (recording programmes) would his LNB be ok to work with it?etc. Any help would be appreciated

Re: Giving away my HD sky box
Yes, it will work fine, you will have to fit a quad LNB (yours will do) and run an extra cable in for the recording features to work.
You will then need to put his card in and ring Sky to pair it to the HD box (the number will come up on the screen). There is no charge for this and is done within a few minutes when on the phone to them.
He should be able to get the free HD channels BBC1HD etc

Re: Giving away my HD sky box
Thanks! If he had already had a normal sky+ box installed, would it have been easier ?what would he have to do then? The reason i ask is that MY father has sky+, and i could swop my skyHD box with his sky+ and give his sky+ box to the father in law, seems confusing but may be easier, if you catch my drift

Re: Giving away my HD sky box
It would need nothing new if he swapped the Sky+ for the HD, just unplug all the leads out of the Sky+, remove it and fit the HD. Easy as that.
You will still need to ring Sky to pair the card.
Your farther in law will still need the quad LNB and new cable though. Sky+ and SkyHD both need two feeds to allow the recording of different channels.

Re: Giving away my HD sky box
i presume the changing of the lnb and cabling would still need to be done on the father inlaws system to take a normal sky+ box from MY fathers system, and he would then have to pair his card to the Sky+ box, confused?, you will be after this episode of SOAP!! Thanks Andy

Re: Giving away my HD sky box
Its the best way to grab someone attention and it certainley worked!! Many thanks for all the help. Just have to persuade my father that sky arent going to bite his head off when he calls them to do the pairing, he seems to think that they will fob him off and say he cant do that because he has only been with them about 6 months, i dont think they can do anything about it
, can they??

Re: Giving away my HD sky box
There's no reason why Sky would do that. Once you have Sky + its highly unlucky that you would do with out it. Therefore, Sky should see it as a sign, that your Father in Law is more likely to stay with Sky longer than the remaining six months he has left, on his existing contract.

Re: Giving away my HD sky box
Sky are o.k about pairing a card. I did my HD box and once through to Sky technical a very nice chap just asked me for some details from the system details page and it was done.
