      Another performance thread (browser related)

This is related to playback smoothness and not buffering or bandwidth issues. Finding that watching the F1 channel (though probably affects all of them) that the playback is a bit jerky in Chrome and Firefox, whereas in IE11 its fine. Just trying to figure out what might be causing it as IE is not really my browser of choice. The conspiracy theorist in me wonders why sIlverlight runs better in an MS browser .

Sky are working on the servers which stream the content for Sky Go. This may be related.

I noticed it at the back end of last years F1 season though, so back then thought it could be a troublesome windows update to blame.

Re: Another performance thread (browser related)

Whilst the statement below is specifically aimed at the Android side, I believe that the issues may well be related.

Sky Go Android - Phase 2 delay - Sky Community
      Hi everyone,

I have a statement from the product team regarding the merger of Sky Go for Android & The Sky Go Tablet app.

We would like to share our progress with you on our support for Android Tablets. In our original plan we were scheduled to release Phase 2 of the app (a combined Tablet & Phone app) at the end of January. As some of you told us, we have been experiencing issues with streams freezing on the Sky Go tablet app, particularly on Sports channels, since it launched in December last year. For the past two months we have been focused on investigating all potential root causes and ironing out these issues one at a time. During testing, we found that we were experiencing the same issues on phones.

We have therefore decided against releasing the new application until we have fixed the problems. We hope you understand we’d rather get this right, and we strongly believe that sorting of out these issues should be our priority at the moment. We are working to determine how long this work will take and we’ll update you when we have a clear view of this.

Re: Another performance thread (browser related)

May be related or may not but I get jerky playback on my browser or external apps due to GPU issues.

My system is quite old (AMD 780G) so the video in the browser is a bit jerky where a Video player (like MPC-HC) is using DVXA and the browser is using DXVA to accelerate browser rendering or vice versa where the browser is running with acceleration then some videos are a bit jerky. I know that both Chrome and Firefox use DXVA acceleration to improve browser performance but it does impede other accelerated functions perhaps IE doesn't do this and it's just that your CPU will be a bit less responsive for other things.

This might be unrelated but it might not.

Re: Another performance thread (browser related)

Don't think its that bubblegun, the cpu is an i5 3570K @4.4, and gfx card a GTX 670. Cpu usage is about 10-15% (about the same on all 3 browsers) when streaming the video. Wasn't a bad thought though.
