      Sky Go data usage

      Hi,
just got an iphone 3GS - but decided on low data tariff - 100mb per month. I can always increase it if I ever needed to for a day say, but just wondering how much data per hour is being sucked through?

      Cheers

      Hi,
Rule of thumb is around 900Mb to watch a footie game, just the game not all the other stuff before during or after, last year i done a check on a rugbygame and it used 800/840Mb, now the tom tom drums are saying that maybe later this year they are going to have HD on sky go and the usage then will be a lot higher.

Very useful - if I need it then it'll be me giffgaff sim with unlimited, or I can pay for a days' extra - (I'm with O2)

A little birdie said this also, along with the other info we posted the other day, hence the upgrade of the Sky GO servers / streaming etc

Story of my life missed that 1 again The drum roll is low at the moment.

      Meteosat,
croeso or iawn to be honest I'm not sure if 3G will be able to handle live HD streaming as I've never looked into it because my o2 up here is very poor as are a lot of the other carriers and so I only use Wi-Fi. I have no doubt that I will be put in my place by the Techies on here about 3G & HD lol

      Diawn!
And with 4G being broken in the UK for current Ipad 3's the outlook even with that is dodgy. Still, if we use a small screen I can't see much advantage of HD - whereas on Homeplug networks such as here it would be very nice!

      Cheers

Ah - I think I saw a post of yours in the forum - but many thanks for the warning - so really we are saying unless you are on a truly unlimited data allowance SKY GO is more for wi-fi?

TBH I don't think any ISP or mobile carrier are truly unlimited no matter what they say and yes I've seen mobile carriers who say unlimited getting upset if you use 100Mb so not really much hope on 3G with sky go. 4G is many many years away is it not???

      Re: Sky Go data usage

T-Mobile offer a good selection of mobile internet boosters now. They of course, offer their Full Monty tariffs which are unlimited data including tethering (although 3g speeds do seem to be capped at 3.8Mb). Their standard internet booster offers you 750Mb a month. They also offer a 'extra' internet booster which gives you 1.5Gb monthly allowance for around 13 extra a month or their 'super' internet booster which gives you a 5Gb allowance for around 20 extra a month. All boosters include a WiFi allowance at BT Openzone hotspots.

Both the extra and super boosters also include tethering (but only when on a pure T-Mobile signal and not currently the shared T-Mobile/Orange signal, although I believe this will change soon). Full Monty unlimited data is now also available on SIM only (but that does not include tethering for some silly reason).

T-Mobile also just have a FUP policy so even if you go over the allowance, they just slow you down and don't charge you any extra until your next billing date.

O2 seem to be the most stingy mobile provider now when it comes to data allowances!!
