Re: Sky Player on WMC Windows 7

I've been watching the rest of this thread and tried the solutions too.

I don't tend to use Window's Media Centre as I prefer VLC & Winamp to play my videos or music. So my solution for downloading the Sky Player Desktop app was solely based on the fact that I hadn't really explored the WMC software.

Unfortunately all I've got is the 'Guide' displaying. It shows the channels, not what is airing, and it doesn't allow me to actually watch anything or sign in to Sky to confirm who I am.

I too have Windows Home Premium installed with SP1 too.

Due to a nasty getting on my laptop last week, I've actually reinstalled Win 7 over the weekend and everything has been done correctly.

      Isitme,
      No, I haven't got a 64-bit disk, I only have a 32-bit 'product recovery' disk.
The 'experts' who repaired the laptop initially only installed the 32-bit version, but changed that to 64-bit after I complained. Whether or not it was a clean install, who knows?

Re: Sky Player on WMC Windows 7

Who is your internet provider? O2??

I've had this problem, if you want to try this out (no guarantees but it worked for me). Firstly just

Change your DNS to Google ones follow this guide
Change your DNS Server in Windows 7 [How to] | Windows 7 | Windows Tools, Help & Guides

When you have done that reboot the pc, open media center - Is Sky/MSN now there?

      No?

Then go to the automatic downloads and run a download, wait for that to finish and close media center.

Then do start>search and type CMD, when cmd icon comes up right click and choose 'Run as administrator' - paste the following command in
      %windir%\ehome\mcupdate -uf -nogc
When that is running close the command prompt window and open task manager you should see some media center update things going on. When they have all stopped after a while reboot the pc, open media center and see if sky player and msn are now showing

Re: Sky Player on WMC Windows 7

I got a brand new computer last week, and mine does exactly the same thing. And my father also got a new computer(different brand /spec to mine) last week and his does the same thing. We both have Windows 7 64 Bit. The sky/msn player simply does not show up on the main menu bar so you cant install them.
The programs show up in the guide, but when you click on them they do not open. I have tried all sorts of things and still cant get them to work so hopefully a solution will show up soon.
I have two other computers in my house and they work fine, both players show and install fine. Only difference with them they are running Windows 7 32 bit.
Certainly a strange problem, but seems to be a common problem.
Microsoft need a kick up the **** to get this sorted!

Re: Sky Player on WMC Windows 7

      Dear All,
Problem seems to have sorted itself out. Media Centre did a download last night & hey presto, Sky Player & MSN Video Player have appeared! Checked the update log & it appears that the download this time including data to change the strCountryCode & Location entries in the registry from <<NULL>> to GB (even though I'd tried this by manually changing entries, with no effect)
So, all present & correct, but not really any the wiser as to why.

      Thanks for all the suggestions.

Re: Sky Player on WMC Windows 7

      Thank you for the feedback.

It sounds more likely that someone from BSkyB notified M$ that there was a problem and asked M$ to fix it.
