      Sky Player and Usage Allowance

Just a moan rather than a question!!

I am on the midi package and have noticed that after just 4 days into my allowance period my usage is already over 3GB. Then I realise that I have 2 new deliveries on my sky player. How can Sky get away with reducing the allowance from 40GB to 10GB (and then start charging for the lower allowance!) and then push movies to my sky player (ones I haven't asked for) which reduces my allowance even more.

I understand why they have sky player working peer to peer, but if it is seriously going to reduce my already small allowance then I am going to have to remove it, which would be ashame as I do use it occasionally.

      Moan over

Hi If you delete the deliveries before watching them it should not show on your usage I am fairly sure if someone wants to give information or correct me it would help
then push movies to my sky player (ones I haven't asked for) which reduces my allowance even more.

Re: Sky Player and Usage Allowance

Remember that Sky player uses Kontiki, a P2P application. This means that you are not only having downloads set against your allowance but uploads as well. This runs continuously all the time your PC is switched on. These uploads can add up to a considerable amount of your allowance. Really, if you want to use Sky iplayer, you need to upgrade to the Unlimited package.

The BBC iPlayer does not use P2P, so only what you download counts towards your total.

Steve could be correct, but I don't see how it can be done. When the data passes through the usage meter, I don't think it can be pushed back for a credit.

I think Sky player could be responsible for many cases where users think their usage is too high.
