Major buffer problems on Xbox 360

      Hey guys,

Basically, I'm on a 3.8MB Connection, or at least thats what my router says

And every 4-5 seconds Sky Player buffers on the 360, it DOES NOT do this on the PC Sky Player, and streams absolutely fine. Any helpful tips or anyone else have this problem?

      Thank you very much

Are you using wireless to connect the Xbox?

      If so, try a wire.

Re: Major buffer problems on Xbox 360

Well unfortunately, I can't use a wire due to the location of the Xbox compared to the Router. And I've bought a wireless adapter, so I'm not prepared to buy a cabal. Please don't tell me it's impossible to stream wirelessly... I have 3/4 bars on the signal as well...

Re: Major buffer problems on Xbox 360

Nothing is impossible but in this case you are asking for me to say that it is not a problem due to the wireless capabilities.

The problem is, it IS a problem with your wireless setup, it is not great at pushing data around at any sort of speed, especially when using an Xbox. Just because you have a strong signal, it doesn't mean it is a clean signal, you may be getting errors that are causing data to be re-sent and slowing the whole process down.

You could try changing channels on the router to see if this helps, start at 13 and work down but chances are that you will not be able to get it to work as well as a wire or a set of homeplugs (which would have been cheaper than the Xbox wireless dongle).

you can get really really long network cables! i have a 50 meter one for my xbox after i got annoyed at the wireless adaptor being really slow, and it now works perfectly. Trust us that its the wireless adaptor causing problems. I know its not what you wanna hear but truth hurts!!!

Re: Major buffer problems on Xbox 360

Microsoft are going to release a wireless N adapter right about now. You would need a compatible router as well, so it's an expensive solution, but it offers a greater range with higher data throughput. (This is in preparation for HD streaming)

Xbox Wireless N adapter spotted in Asda ? technology news ? Stuff.tv

You could press Y and alter the quality setting on some of the channels, this might help.
(I connect wirelessly with no problems - using a linksys wag200g)

Re: Major buffer problems on Xbox 360

to be honest a set of homeplugs will be cheaper than a wireless N solution.

The problem is that wi-fi sits on the 2.4 Ghz frequency which is freely avaliable for anybody to use.

I now have 17 wireless devices and I don't even use wi-fi all which must sit in the avaliable 13 slots.

Wireless has now had it's day especially as wired solutions are now cheaper.

Re: Major buffer problems on Xbox 360

I also have major buffering problems and am experiencing the same kind of problems as the OP.

I have a 3.9 Mbps Broadband connection on a 20:1 contention ratio and my Xbox is connected via ethernet cable. Therefore I wouldn't be too quick to point the finger at WiFi.

I can watch Sky Player on my PC without these problems.

Hey, I solved mine by re-downloading the player for the 360
