the jist is, sky player will be availible in the windows media center for windows 7,tommorow , i have a feeling that the multple pc login issues will arise, and aybe sky are not confident in their own software.

p.s. remember NR whan you said sky and MS are in bed together, now they are "embedded" together

Have you actually read that article?

Griff Parry, Sky's Director of On Demand explained that the final few tweaks were being made and that the product was close to making Windows 7 launch date, but would certainly be ready by the end of 2009.

sorry about the tommorow, meant to put a ?

i did read it, but i thought as the xbox sky player is here then sky and MS may have decide to go the full hog, and we are nearly at the end of 2009 so i guess if not tommorw then withnin the week, it could explain why the internet tv beta hasnt been working

Am i right in assuming this will come to us in a Windows Update?

Not used Media Center in 7 as use VLC for my movies and (begrudgingly, for now) Media player for music.

Re: Sky Player to be on Windows 7

I've got quite a refined setup already running Windows 7 Premium on 3x Media Centres all linked through to a fairly sophisticated home server. I am only expecting the ability really to watch my current subscription channels in rather blocky non-HD resolution which will more than likely hog the bandwidth on my broadband line. All of this has been possible for a while and the addition of a nice '10 foot interface' to the existing service is all that I'm expecting.

The good news is that Sky and Microsoft seem to be finally collaborating. I can already via freesat and a HD Satcard pickup signals and most importantly the guide for all the FTA satellite channels but my wishlist for the future, something which I would consider increasing my subscription for, would be:

      1. An add-on card reader for media pc's to allow it to be used independently of a sky box.

      2. Ability to save sky recordings to either a media pc or ideally homeserver and allow licencing within the homegroup for any attached pc's.

Although we are getting this convergence slowly but surely, my current frustrations are around wanting to discard the skyHD box due to its lack of interface'ing with my other devices. At present we only use the Skybox for channel surfing, live sports and occasional planned watching. More often than not I use torrent services to download content just broadcasted to allow me to keep either permanent copies on myserver or in the very least archive to allow a cost effective option to distribute around the house.

Anyone got any other hopes for Win7 Sky integration?

I have found VLC media player very good for music and have it as my default player with MIRO as the 2nd.

WMP 12 hasn't even been used yet by me.
I'm a PC, and Windows 7 Backup saved my sanity when BitDefender imploded !!!
