Re: Sky Player - Attempt to view error

I have the MF1 error. I have had it on two different PCs on two different networks. I have tried Silverlight 2 and the 3 Beta. Certainly my first try was not behind an authenticated proxy - not sure how I can test for the connection I am using now. I email Sky and they said

"The solution is normally accessing the Sky Player service from a residential internet connection or removing/disabling all proxy service's.

There has also been case of internet explorer version 8 causing the issue and when cusotmers roll back to version 7 Sky Player works fine. "

      Which I suspect means "dunno".

Re: Sky Player - Attempt to view error

I have done a bit of digging. There are three MF (media fail at a guess) errors:

MF1 - complete failure, nothing displayed
MF2 - failure within the last 10 seconds
MF3 - failure with the last valid image more than 10 seconds ago

So MF1 doesn't mean anything of any significance other than 'failure'. MF1 is a Sky error, not Silverlight.

I turned on the debug flag and got the attached image. As you can see the failure happens very quickly - within 2s of the request.

Re: Sky Player - Attempt to view error

On my machine, the last thing I see before the error is "downloading security components", so maybe its that either the download request is refused or the component cannot be updated

Re: Sky Player - Attempt to view error

I have found that the full Silverlight 3 release solves the MF1 problem and I can now see live Sky TV.

I can play Skyplayer ok through my laptop when at home and using my BT router to access the internet. However I get this problem whenever I am away from home and using my mobile phone as the router for my laptop.
So perhaps this will help one of you more tech savvy readers to identify the problem as it seems to be related to the type of connection not the software on your pc.

Re: Sky Player - Attempt to view error

I had the MF1 problem too. I verified my SIlverlight installation was up to date with:
      http://www.microsoft.com/silverlight...l/default.aspx (Silverlight 3).

However I still got the MF1 error using Firefox on both a Mac and a PC

I found the solution was to use the other browser on the OS i.e. on Mac OS X, Safari worked, on Windows Vista IE8 worked.

Perhaps the comment above about needing to run Firefox as adminstrator is appropriate but I'm not inclined to do this with my browser.

(Thanks for this useful thread btw)
