How to use / setup Sky Player

To visit the Sky Player website, click this link Sky Player Home Page

To activate / setup Sky Player - You will need to login to your 'My Sky' Account.

      http://www.sky.com/portal/site/skyco...ration&ap=saop

Login with your normal 'My Sky' details, ie Username and Password

Once logged in you will see the following:

Sky Player can only be used on one PC. You now need to decide if the PC you are using right now is the one you want to use for Sky Player.

You also need to agree to the Sky Player Terms & Conditions and choose a parental control PIN. This can be used later to control access by your children.

Fields marked with an asterisk (*) are mandatory.
Once you have filled out this section, by choosing the PC and then putting in a PIN code and then accepting the Terms and Conditions, we should hopefully be ready to go.

Hopefully you should then get the following message

      • Download the application and save somewhere easily found, ie Desktop.
      • Once downloaded, double left click to install
      • Just use the default options on installation

      To launch Sky Player

Double left the Sky Player Icon on your desktop

Once you have chosen what Genre you wish to watch you should get a screen similar to this

Click on the image of the program / film etc that you wish to watch

Then click on Get This Now

On my first attempt, I had to again login to My Sky via the application and then perform a DRM upgrade, all the steps are clearly shown within the application's window. Follow these steps and you should be good to go.

To watch Sky Player from My Sky - Select Sky Player from the left hand side

Then select from the Quick Links at the top left hand side of the screen

Once you have chosen what Genre you wish to watch you should get a screen similar to this

Click on the image of the program / film etc that you wish to watch

Then click on Get This Now

Re: How to use / setup Sky Player

Updated the instructions, as I finally managed to get online and activate the Sky Player.

I am a little disappointed with this. My reasoning is as follows:

      • I had to wait about 3 hours to finally get my account activated, due to the numerous error messages throughout the process.
      • I think that Sky have skimped on this, they couldn't even be bothered to change the launch screen from Sky Anytime to the new name of Sky Player. Nothing like cutting corners on a rushed job.
      • Once I had finally managed to get this activated and then installed, the first time I went to download something, I had to input my Username and Password to do so.
      • On logging out and then relaunching the Sky Player to choose another film to download, bang, Username and Password again - So just what was the point of authorising my PC?

I have to say, imho I much prefer the BBC iPlayer, click, click, done, program starts. After starting this post, I have only managed to download 1% of two films. (about ten minutes)

Re: How to use / setup Sky Player

I've registered, downloaded & installed, tried it only to be asked once again to log in, then to be told that I'm asking the Player to play on another pc!? I've only got one pc and that one's registered to Sky.
      Any help please-thanks

Give up and try this - its simple, it works, and you don't need to log in every five minutes:

      BBC iPlayer - Home

Think you're right Ged. I've got logged on once, then no more.
I've spoken to the techy who said he'd sort it his end, but nothings happening now-still getting that infernal error code 16. I swear they're just showing the error to make people pay for the phone call. I've emailed them, but refuse to ring them again. Its coming off.

Re: How to use / setup Sky Player

This is all rather out-of date now. My Sky Player software stopped working recently and I've had to re-install. the latest version needs Silverlight v2. Took a while to get it working again. I needed to use Kclean to get rid of Kontiki before the re-install woudl work.

Unfortunately Sky Player (installed version) won't work on my PC - Vista 64 and so I cannot update this tutorial. If anyone feels like doing one and letting me know, I can add it to the tutorial section.
