Hi - I too have thi problem and the Sky help? desk told me that their player is incompatible with the BBC iPlayer - ie if you have the BBC iPlayer installed you cannot have the Sky Player. That seems crazy to me but I guess this is Sky we are dealing with !
I too am using Windows XP (SP3) with windows media player 11 and can't get any downloads from sky to play - all result in Error 20000.

I too had this problem but mine was after I (successfully) installed SkyPlayer on my PC, then wiped and rebuilt the OS (Vista Home). The Sky servers thought it was a second installation and denied it. After a couple of fruitless emails to tech support, a phone call to a helpful (!) young lady at Dunfermline sorted the problem. The original registration was deleted and everything worked fine after that.

      Good luck to you all.
