      Problem installing upgrade to 4.9

I just tried to run Sky Anytime and found I was required to upgrade to version 4.9.

This required me to upgrade to Media Player 11 first.

The install program then crashed on installing the upgrade (just a failure message, no diagnostics).

I found that re-booting got me around that problem.

Then I tried using the installed icon to run the new version. The cursor briefly shows an hour glass, then nothing. No error message. Nothing happens.

I tried firing up WMP 11 and found it was part-installed. I finished the install and rebooted. No change. Nothing happens when I try to run AnyTime.

      Anyone got any ideas?

      Andy

EDIT: I'm running Windows XP MCE rollup 2 fully patched

      Hi Andy!

Have you tried uninstalling Anytime. Removing all files and directories it has created. Rebooting, Reinstalling WMP 11, Rebooting and then reinstalling Anytime?

Re: Problem installing upgrade to 4.9

I've found out why Sky AnyTime won't start. If I use Control Panel -> Administrative Tasks -> Services to display the list of services and try to start KService manually, I get "Could not start the KService service on Local Computer. Error 0x80004005 Unspecified error".

I tried uninstall -> KClean -> reinstall but I still get this error and AnyTime still won't start.

      Thanks for the response.

I've done most of that. See my other post, I've pinned the problem down to KService. Can't see that's a WMP11 issue, can you?

I really dont know what else to suggest (other then what has been and that you have tried), I would install it, But I use Vista anyway, Which could have problems within itself.

Re: Problem installing upgrade to 4.9

Have you tried: Start Menu > run > msconfig, go to services and make sure KSERVICE is checked.

Also, do you have the Beeb's iPlayer or 4's 4oD?

Re: Problem installing upgrade to 4.9

Since installing 4.9 I am also unable to run sky anytime. I get no error messages or anything. Just nothing happens. After reading this I have checked KService and found that it is not running. When I manually try starting it I get the following error:
      ---------------------------
      Services
      ---------------------------
Could not start the KService service on Local Computer.

      Error 0x80004005: Unspecified error
      ---------------------------
      OK
      ---------------------------
I have also read this thread and checked that Kservice is checked in msconfig. I am not running 4oD nor am I running iPlayer. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Problem installing upgrade to 4.9

Sorry for not relying to some of the above. The site seems to have lost my Email subscription.

I have found the problem in my system.

I decided to give the install another go. I uninstalled by re-running the install program. Ran KClean (see sticky in this forum) to remove Kontiki. I then went in to user settings to remove files there.

I found that the following directory was screwed up:

      C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Kontiki

NB. This is a hidden directory. You might need to run the following from Explorer to see it: Tools -> Folder options... -> View -> Select 'Show hidden files and folders and click OK.

Attempting to delete this directory caused: "Cannot delete Kontiki: The directory is not empty.". Any attempt to view the contents of Kontiki caused: "The disk in drive C is not formatted. Do you want to format it now?".

BTW, in case you are in any doubt, the answer to that last question is NO!

However, I could rename it. So I renamed it to Kontikix. The install went ahead and AnyTime now works for me.

I guess it's possible that my disk and/or directory structure could have been corrupted by something else. But, given AnyTime was working the last time I used it, I would say that the AnyTime install is the prime suspect.

Very interested to know if anyone else is seeing the same issue.

Re: Problem installing upgrade to 4.9

I also had problems installing the upgrade...I finally fixed mine by Removing sky anytime through control panel then add/remove programmes.

I then went on sky.com to my own profile, removed anytime from there. I then had to go to Microsoft download center..where i downloaded......NET Framework Version 2.0 Redistributable Package (x86)..

Then went back to sky.com and reinstalled anytime....all is fine now..

      Hope that may help others.
