Re: Sky Email setup and settings

      hiya,

      Thanks for the reply.

I have turned off the windows firewall but still get the same result.

I do not run ZA or similar at the moment.

      My AV is NOD32 v 2.7.32

Really frustrated at not being able to pick up email on an external application as opposed to webmail.

Re: Sky Email setup and settings

im also having problems with outlook express at the moment.

i believe its a problem cause by xp, not a firewall because after i downloaded sp2 and a load of updates it stopped working, but even after uninstalling sp2 theres no change.

all ports are open, programs are allowed, firewalls are disabled, tried everything i can think of. apart from uninstalling every outlook express update i dont know what else to try that might be causing it.

      running norton btw, not mcafee

What problems exatley are you having as you don't say. Have you tried disabling Norton completely to see if this fixs the issues you are having ?

Re: Sky Email setup and settings

it was the unable to connect to pop.sky.com port 110 problem

      its bigger now. :'(

i decided to try to uninstall the outlook express hotfix, thinking that might of caused it
      big mistake.

now outlook express doent start at all after i removed the updates saying msoe.dll is missing.

i tried installing ie6 again as that is meant to include outlook express but that didnt help.

so, errrr, yeh. any help on that would be handy.
and a note to everyone else, dont remove windows updates. its bad.

edit - i found the dll file so outlook is working again now

      the exact error is
The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'pop.sky.com', Server: 'pop.sky.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Re: Sky Email setup and settings

      Have a read of this:

      Is this any help:

You receive a "Socket error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800ccc0e" error message when you try to send or receive e-mail in Outlook or in Outlook Express

Another program, such as virus-scanning software, has reassigned port 25 to another port. Disable all services that are not essential, including antivirus software, and then restart the server.

Is your incoming mail server correct in Outlook Express ?

Re: Sky Email setup and settings

well it wasn't working for 3 days. right after i installed ms security updates

i removed the outlook express update (KB923694), which then caused the .dll file problem. but after finding a replacement file and one restart later all seems to be working.

and yes, i tried all the other fixes i could think of before i did that.

edit - and now its stopped working again, with the same error

Re: Sky Email setup and settings

Has a Mozilla Thunderbird set up been documented, if not I could probably do this?

Re: Sky Email setup and settings

I use Thunderbird and have never had any problems with it and my Sky mail as you can use one smtp server for all your mail so you don't have to use the Sky one if you don't want.
