Input your Sky supplied Username and Password here:

      Mail on Mac OSX:

When you launch Mail for the first time, or when you are adding a new account, you will see the New Account Window. Set the Account type to "POP3".

Account Description can be whatever you wish.

Enter your name, then your email address, then click Continue.

Enter your incoming mail server and your Sky username.

Enter your password if you wish. Click Continue. Mail will attempt a connection to the mail server to check the validity of the server and ID.

Use the following SMTP server information. No password needed.

You will see a verification screen where you can verify that your information is correct. Once you have verified your information, you will see the following screen. Click Done, and you're ready to go.

My current BB ISP allows me to receive mail into Outlook 2003 from my Freeserve email account that I've had for years and want to continue to use. This works alongside my current ISP email account without problems.

Will I be able to do the same with Sky BB?

My email settings for Freeserve are:-
      Incoming mail server (POP3) = pop.freeserve.com
Outgoing mail server (SMTP) = smtp2.uk4dsl.co.uk

Could Sky settings for Freeserve be:-
      Incoming mail server (POP3) = pop.freeserve.com
Outgoing mail server (SMTP) = smtp.sky.com

I know this thread starts from last year but thought I could update some info for you.

I've just registered for Sky BB, have received my 'user name' and 'password', still waiting to be connected but this hasn't stopped me using Sky e-mail facilities

Nice one, although I do find it ironic that someone who is not on Sky can get their email via sky and a whole host of other people who are on Sky can't !

      Ironic indeed.

It appears as long as you've received your letter with the username and password details then it's all systems go. At first it took me a while to log-in (maybe due to server load) using these details but once in it was quick and allowed me to create additional e-mail accounts without any problems.

I must say thanks to the excellent tutorial shown in this thread.

      Best Regards

Re: Sky Email setup and settings

I received my account settings today for email. I entered the details in OE6 as given and I can receive emails from Sky but I can't seem to send an email out using my Sky email. I get this:

The connection to the server has failed. Account: '***** ******', Server: 'smtp.sky.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10051, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

      Any ideas anyone?

Are you connected to Sky BB yet? If you are not you cannot send messages from your desktop client - only via Sky BB webmail.

Re: Sky Email setup and settings

      hmmm..

I`ve tried using outlook 2003, outlook express 6 and thunderbird with no joy at all.

the OE6 error message seems to be the same as many others are having :
The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'pop.sky.com', Server: 'pop.sky.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10065, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

      Outlook 2003 says:

Task '******@sky - Receiving' reported error (0x80042108) : 'Outlook is unable to connect to your incoming (POP3) e-mail server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).' during a send and recieve

if i test the account settings it says the server was found but there was no response... go check the ssl settings etc etc

I have had a good look through the thread and checked settings over and over.

I have opened ports 110 and 25 for both tcp and udp via the services option of the router.

I believe that i AM connected to Sky BB as i can access the website, log in, look at webmail, my profile, browse the internet etc etc.

      Any thoughts anyone??

      Cheers

      Merrik

      That is not needed.

Try disabling your firewall, by right clicking on the icon and then choosing disable, if it is there. That has been known to interfere before.
