I try to log in and it says that my username and password do not match.

I try the Google unlock thing and no joy.

I then try the Password change on Sky (which I've tried about ten times now) and it enables me to change, saying that I have successfully changed my password, but then won't allow me to log in saying that my username and password do not match.

I don't know what's more annoying. The fact that these things are happening or the fact that they (SKY) are not being helpful in the slightest. If you know people are having these problems at least put a response up as to what they should do or how long to wait for. Despite the decent price, it's not been decent value for me (with my speed only at 2mb at the most, often around 1mb when my line can accept 3mb and constantly dropping the connection and numerous other issues, such as waiting nearly 4 months to be connected) so I think it's time to look around for one of the more expensive yet better quality broadband deals.
tbh, if ur having line issues any other provider would have the same (unless you were on ADSLMax as it'd have a training in period and then prob settle down) - and email is only a small gripe, just get a normal googlemail account and just leave the Sky one until a resolution is resolved.

I'm not saying you should have to put up with it but there are easy ways around this...

      Dear IAmNotTheEnemy

I know you're not the enemy personally; I actually don't think Sky is the enemy. But Sky tempts us in with apparently terrific offers (especially if we already have Sky TV). They then give us instructions about setting up email in Outlook or OE; they then migrate it to Google, and send us more instructions. When it goes wrong, these people who have been sending us all the instructions for email say that they don't support email. What would we think of a company that sold us a computer, a scanner and a printer, and when we couldn't get the printer to work, said, "Sorry, we don't support printers, but you could always take a disc down to the library and print it there"? When you send out these instructions, could you please start with the line: "Warning - if this goes wrong or doesn't work, you're on your own"?

      Dear youravinalarrrf

      Thanks for asking him, anyway.

Again, I know you are not really the enemy, but....

I would have expected Sky to have a proper unified response to this problem, and I would have expected them to post a notice on both the Sky.com website and on Skyuser.co.uk stating that they are experiencing some problems with mailboxes being unobtainable.

The stock line about "not supporting pop clients" just does not wash when they send out detailed PDF instructions on how to set up a POP client and activate POP in their new email system. if they truly didn't support POP then they should simply not bother offering it.

It's no good trotting out the Google line either. It is Sky's name that is on the bill at the end of the month and, whilst I don't expect any of the Sky support agents to be instant experts on the new Skoogle system, I would expect that they know about some the little tips and tweaks that we have discussed here over the last few days. Christ, they could just print out the handy guide I wrote last night!

The final big issue for most people who are still without email is that there has been some kind of account corruption which is locking them out of POP access. The frustration for these poor buggers is that a simple notice on the Sky homepage and on this website would have made a lot of them relax and wait a few days for it to be fixed, and for those that did phone up, a simple clear official statement would at least make sure that everyone got told the same thing.

As I say, I know you are not really the enemy. I really appreciate all the help and support that you and all the Sky people give on this site unofficially, I just wish you didn't have to!

Re: Sky Email setup and settings

      Hi

I have been having the same problems with OE. I have found that after being transfered to the new sky email hosted by Google I have to mix the settings in OE. So my incoming mail is set to (pop.tools.sky.com) but have had to set my outgoing mail to (smtp.sky.com), Then in the advanced tab, set outgoing mail to 25 and leave the box unticked for SSL. Incoming mail to 995 and tick box for SSL. I know its a bit of a mix but try it does work.

Yup, that's potentially a good plan for now. I sure they will turn off the old servers soon though, but until they do it's an option for some. I'll add it to the Tips and Solutions Page

      Cheers

Re: Sky Email setup and settings

      Hi,

I am having problems getting SKYs SMTP to send my emails from Outlook 2003. I am sending emails NOT from a SKY email address, i.e. they are from a domain i own with 123reg.co.uk.

When i try and send using the smtp.sky.com outgoing server it doesnt send the mails - does anyone know how to send emails from a NON SKY email address using Outlook 2003? This must be possible!

      Thanks

      Dubbs

      http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/skyus...p-account.html

You need to send the mails via a different SMTP server as Sky will not allow theirs to be used for anything other than sky.com mails. If you own a domain you should have access to the server that goes with it, if not click on the link above and apply for a free SkyUser one.
